Hi,
I am a quebec selected applicant and i have recently applied for federal part at VO Kuala Lumpur. Hopefully, if everythng goes on smoothly, i should be able to get the visa by August 2011. My ecas status is "Inprocess" since 22nd October 2010.
I was initially planning to stay in Montreal but now i am inclined towards Gatineau. The thing is that I can speak french but my spouse 0 in French. After looking at online jobs for montreal, i saw that even for survival, one has to be bilingual. So, someone on the forum suggested tht one can stay in hull and work in Ottawa. Now, i am bit confused. In hull/Gatineau, there is not much choice regarding halal food. However, main priority is job to survive. Since u r already there, do u think one can get a job of $ 15-20 without speaking french in Montreal. I have a degree in RFID engineering and also software engineering but just 1 yr part time working experince. My spouse has a degree in financial management and one yr working as a banking officer.

Shahzad
ABOVE WAS THE QUESTION TO ME FROM SHAHZAD, PLEASE FIND MY REPLY TO HIM BELOW
Dear Shahzad,
Thank you very much for your question. Well, very honestly, I still have no idea about how it works in Canada by living in one province and working in another (there are issues like annual tax declaration, medical insurance, driver's license etc. which are regulated by individual province).
You are worried about your spouse's French communication skill. Québec government provides free Language courses (French) to all Québec immigrants those who needs. In Montréal downtown, I personally think that English is used more than French even though it will be HARDLY HARDLY possible to find a job with $15/20 without being bilingual.
But the most important thing everyone should keep in mind, that there is a trend in Canada of asking about a Canadian Work experience to a new Immigrant which I consider as ridiculous as we ask to a fresh graduate for work experience of 5-7 years in Bangladesh.
About halal food, I believe, there are Bangladeshi/Pakistani shops in Ottawa as we have in Montréal, where you will be able to find.
Sincerely,
