OLd skilled worker applecants Petition
Dear Minister,
We write to you hoping you would resurrect our faith in Canada. It was with the conviction of this faith that we submitted our application to immigrate to Canada. We are applicants in the skilled worker category who’ve been waiting for years for a simple determination on our application, suspending all planning and foregoing of numerous life opportunities because Canada might call onto us to come. Throughout these years, it has become increasingly difficult if not impossible to believe in the fairness of Canada any more.
It didn’t start out this way. We believed we were endeavoring to immigrate to a land whose people and government were fair and its administration of affairs efficient and compassionate. Instead, your administration of the process has shown a lack of compassion and understanding of immigration and immigrants, their humanity, dignity, their aspirations, hopes and dreams. We are constantly heartbroken with a system that appears indifferent to the consequences of its unfairness and disregard of basic norms of human decency.
From where we stand and what we observe, you keep changing the rules of immigration mid-stream, process applications out of order, keep advertising and accepting skilled worker applications in the very same categories for which thousands of applications are already pending. You keep applicants waiting for years allegedly for background checks. While older applicants have to endure sometimes years for their background checks to conclude, the newer applicants effortlessly pass this hurdle in a matter of few months.
You shift and shuffle around the applications from embassy to embassy allegedly for “expediting the process,” only to go ahead and send medicals out of order. From where we stand, the shuffling has not led to any efficiency or expediency in the process. Rather it has led only to longer delays as evident by your own published timelines, which continue to stretch into the future every time we have checked the website .
Mr. Minister, please, for the sake of Canada and the Canadians, respect the concept of a queue. If you want the best for Canada, start with yourself and your organization. It is very simple. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It is disrespectful to those who’ve been patiently waiting their turn to observe others simply bypass the line and go through.
Finally, we hope this letter would persuade you to take a moment in your day and meditate on what it is like to be in our position. We hope you would make good on your original promise of processing applicants on a first-come-first-served basis. We hope you would provide more transparency and accurate information on where our applications stand, so we may have an idea to plan our lives.
Signed and respectfully submitted on behalf of old applicants in the skilled worker category.
