I have just landed in Canada & these are the official procedures I went through. I am sharing it for people who are coming soon.
Before getting off the plane, I had to fill up a declaration form, which was provided by the flight attendants. Ask for it if it is not provided. It’s a small form which I had to fill in with my name, place of residence in Canada, monetary value of goods and cash accompanying me and declarations of special items like food, cigarette, alcohol and other such items.
I landed in Toronto and after I got off the plane, I told the officer that I was new and was here for 'landing' so I had to take a different line. There I faced my 1st officer who took my passport and asked me about my declaration, how much funds I was carrying, where I would be staying. He also asked for my confirmation of Permanent residence (COPR) form. After going through my declaration and COPR the officer asked me to go another office for newly landed immigrants. This took about 5 minutes.
After standing in line at that office I was met by another officer who asked me about my professional background , where I previously lived, how much money I was bringing in, if I had any trouble with the police before. He also asked me for my address and I think this is where he would be sending my PR card. He did not ask to see my money. I also had to provide my Confirmation of PR document. There are two copies of COPR, one the officer kept and the other he gave after I signed both documents. This took about 15 minutes.
Next I was sent to Canada Services desk for my SIN. I handed in my landing papers, which is my COPR. There an officer asked for my parent’s name, my mother’s maiden name and where I would be living. The officer gave me my SIN number which is to be kept confidential at times. This took about 10 minutes.
Next is baggage claim. A pretty simple procedure where I collected my 3 pieces of luggage. After that you head out where another officer checks your declaration form and passengers are headed out.
I kept all my documents and funds with me for checking but no one wanted to see it. I also had my pictures with me, but didn’t need it. But It is better to keep this his with you. This is my personal experience so needless to say that others may face a variety of other situations.
This is as far I remember. Hope this may come to use.
