I received an e-mail from the PNP office with a pdf attached that contained the following. Seems to me that this applies to AINP nominees who are already working in AB:
Now that you’re nominated…
Strategic Recruitment Stream
Engineering Occupations and Compulsory Trades Categories
It is important to remember that your Alberta Immigrate Nominee Program (AINP) nomination does not give you authorization to work. You require a valid work permit issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) which will give you the authorization to work.
If you are an AINP nominee who needs to renew your work permit with your current Alberta employer, or to obtain a work permit to start work with a new Alberta employer in the same occupation (NOC code) for which you were nominated by the AINP, follow these steps:
Visit the CIC website at 1. www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp to download the “Application to Change Conditions, Extend My Stay, or Remain in Canada” (IMM 1249). Complete this form.
Use the “Document Checklist – Worker” (IMM 5556) to assemble 2. the additional documents you will need for your application. Please note:
If you have a current Human Resources and Social Development a. Canada (HRSDC) Labour Market Opinion (LMO), provide a copy with your application as per the Document Checklist.
If you do not have a LMO, provide a copy of your AINP b. Confirmation of Acceptance (Nomination) and a copy of your AINP Confirmation Letter.
Ensure that you note on the application that you are an AINP 3. Nominee and you are waiting for your Application for Permanent Residence through CIC to be finalized. If you have obtained a CIC file number for your Permanent Residence application, make sure you note this on your application.
Mail the application to the Case Processing Centre (CPC) Vegreville. 4. The appropriate mailing address can be found at:
www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5553E7.asp.
This process does not guarantee that your application for a work permit will be approved by CIC. The AINP assumes no responsibility for the outcome of your application for a work permit. These are suggested guidelines only. Visit the CIC
website for further details on applying for a work permit.
Make sure you apply for a work permit renewal well before the expiry date of your current work permit.
If you have any questions about this process, contact the AINP Program Officer indicated in your nomination letter.
Applying for a new work permit with a new Alberta employer?
You cannot start working for your new Alberta employer until you receive your new work permit from CPC Vegreville.
Can I just exit Canada and re-enter to obtain a new work permit?
No. An AINP nomination cannot be used to apply for a work permit at a Canadian port of entry (i.e. border crossing at Coutts, airport, etc.). If you are trying to extend your stay in Canada, the appropriate place to apply is through CPC Vegreville.
What happens if I am laid off with my current Alberta employer?
You are entitled to stay in Canada until your current work permit expires. If you find a job with a new Alberta employer, in the occupation (NOC code) for which you were nominated by the AINP, follow the steps on this sheet to obtain a new work permit.
What if I decide to leave Alberta after my nomination?
If you are planning to leave Alberta, you must contact the AINP Program Officer listed in your nomination letter. If you do not inform us of changes in your contact information and we are unable to reach you, we will withdraw your nomination.
