Hi,
Hopeing someone can help me. My mom who is permenant resident of Canada living in Alberta for past two and a half years. She went to India in Feb 2013 and was suppose to come back in Nov. Unfortunately she met with an accident and is unconcious for last 5 months. We don't have travel insurance. I talked to alberta health services and they said you can bring her and they will provide the care but the cost of bringing here to Canada has to be borne by us.

My question is there anyway Government or any other means where we don't have to pay the cost of travel?

Thanks

The costs associated with repatriation are covered in some insurance policies. However since your mother had no insurance policy - this means the repatriation costs are your responsibility. The government will not cover these expenses. Does your mother belong to a church / temple or some other similar religious organization? Perhaps they would be willing to help cover some of the costs?

I hope your mother gets better soon.

Unfortunately repatriation costs are only covered by travel insurance plans which aren't retroactive! If you are in a bad financial bind maybe sponsor a fund raiser (e.g. Facebook page or something like that).
