I am not a citizen yet, but planning to become one. Can one move temporarily to India (2-5 years) to take care of aging parents and return to Canada after citizenship?

You can only be away for 3 years maximum for the last 5 years to maintain your PR status. If you lose you PR status you can not apply for citizenship.

Sorry, I should have explained more clearly. I meant staying for 5 years, acquiring citizenship and then relocating temporarily to India - Then come back to Canada after 4-5 years.

Once you are a citizen, you can remain outside of Canada for however long you wish.
