So here's our problem folks:

I'm a 25 year old Irish national my girlfriend is 48 years old Canadian. We have been living together for 5 months now and we are madly in love and plan on getting married next January or February. Our question is how much of a negative red flag is it that she is older one with the considerable age difference.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

There was a thread on here about a couple with a 39 year ago gap: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/39-year-age-gap-t434928.0.html

It's a considerable age difference, so they might take note of it.

if the relationship is for real age plays a very limited factor. Don't get discouraged by all these talks about redflags.
You just have to show proof that it is for real. There is no rule saying the husband must be only upto 5 years older than the wife. This "norm" no longer exists in the real world. Just give good quality proof that your relationship is real. Make sure you know each others family and they are present at the wedding and the fact thaqt you are living together is a possitive point for you.

I would have to disagree a bit here. Yes it's true if the rest of the relationship is solid and genuine, the age difference won't necessarily cause a refusal by itself. However, that largely depends on the country of origin. If it's from a country like US, where age differences are not a cultural norm, then age difference won't matter much. This "norm" might not exist in our world, but in other countries, it's considered unusual. Just because us Westerners don't consider age difference a big deal doesn't mean other countries feel the same way.

OP should describe how they came to be in a relationship, and explain how the age thing didn't become obvious or how it's not a big deal to them. ex) Maybe explain the sponsor had dated younger guys before and just prefers younger, or vice versa. Explain how they hit it off really well, and didn't know about the age thing until after the 3rd date, etc. Either way he's from Ireland, and I'm sure age difference is not a problem where he's from.

The thread started stating that the couple is Irish + Canadian. Cannot get more western than that. Do not worry too much about the age gap, just have lots of proof to show you are a real couple.

Not applicable. Woman is the younger one in all of your examples.

We have a 12 year age gap and I'm from UK. In one of the letters from family members, his sister acknowledged the age-gap but says I am an old soul and act older than I am. We didn't ask to write that but she just did.

Again, not relevant since you are the female and you are younger. Rightly or wrongly, this is viewed as more traditional and accepted by CIC.

In OP's case, the woman is significantly older than her male partner. This is unusual.

We have recently sent our application. I am the female and and am 6 years older than my Canadian partner. Hoping it won't be an issue for the VO..?

There won't be a problem provided you submit a complete application with ample relationship proofs specially how the relationship has been developed over the period of time. Give every details in black & white supported by photos, documents and whatever needed to show them that two of you are mentally, emotionally deeply attached to each other.

Good luck!

Agree. Just show how you two have developed the relationship. Showing support from family will help as well. Financial proof like joint bank accounts, insurance beneficiary won't hurt as well.

I am 15 years older than my hubby. And we went through the process fine. :)

Good luck.

Thanks :) I never gave it a thought until i read this topic and some others implying that older women would be considered different
