If it even deserves the title of 'discussion'

The problem is people are discussing things on the 'behalf' of how the Government sees and operates and people are discussing things on the behalf of social correctness. It's a passionate, heated discussion because people are saying how things are while the others are saying how they should be.

Discussing this back and forth so intensely is like an unmovable object against an unstoppable force. It's not like the other person representing how things are with the government in reality is going to go, "Awww man! You're right!" and some strange victory would have been won. It's why I never joined the debate team in high school despite strangely being asked to.

If people really want things to change then they should get together in one cohesive group and bring it up to the proper officials. Don't talk that down right away because you guys are making many good points, it's valid with your reasoning and many will respect your voice and at least get back to you somehow.

Otherwise we can all just keep riding along the carousel of impaled magical ponies accomplishing nothing but annoying each other.

As a career homosexual, I am indifferent towards this comment.

Kind of.

I am enraged greatly.

Taking offensive is also a form of opinion.

In Canada, same sex relationships are a human right and protected by the law.

Immigration of a spouse of any age is not a right however.

I think while sometimes age difference is a red flag, you guys seem to have a lot of history together. Some couples with big age differences will meet online and marry very quickly, this doesn't make their relationship seem genuine to CIC. Even though your age difference is quite a lot, you seem to have a lot of history together and with enough proof I think and hope you will okay :D Be sure to include some good letters of support from family and friends.
There is 15 years between my wife and I. She is over 30 though. On my trips to the Philippines you see more and more older white men (either Canadian or American) with younger Filipinas. I don't think there is much of a stigma attached to it anymore. I think it looks kinda funny when you go to Boracay and see all the middle aged guys with their younger wives. Its like you joined a club. LOL.

IT'S NORMAL IT'S OK , IT'S GOOD , IT'S CRAZY !!! IF Canadian goverment allows the same sex marriage, sponsorship and it's not discrimination. why the large age difference is red flag then ?
You are confusing apples to oranges here.
CIC may flag age difference with same sex couples as well. Which, if this is discrimination, would at least be done fairly.
Immigration is in a tough situation. They have to assess whether all relationships are genuine. Even then there is no guarantee. My cousin married a guy from New Zealand, they were together for 10 years. They finally even adopted a baby. Onece everything was finalized for them to all move to New Zealand his spouse refused to sponsor him; took the kid and all the money. Left him here broke and in debt. He had sold his business and now he had to start over at 45. His ex is even now eligible to claim CPP.
No guarantees in life for anybody.

Not everyone finds offense in the same things. I'm sure there are plenty of things you feel are perfectly normal, which she would find completely offensive.

So let's try to argue things on factual merits, rather than what everybody gets "offended" about. I'm beyond sick and tired of everybody getting offended at everything. It's like you have to walk on eggshells every day just hoping that you don't "offend" someone with what you feel or think. Political correctness will be the downfall of society.

My motto is very simple: let people speak their minds, and if you don't agree with them, who cares? It didn't cost you anything, and it didn't take anything away from your quality of life.

I'd much rather let people say whatever they feel, rather than start going down a road of censorship and limiting free speech all in some crazy attempt at trying to please EVERYONE.

Well.

If you go the extreme of either direction, you're still pretty screwed. If I had a kid suffering from autism that was being messed with, I'd be pretty irritated and do something about it with law enforcement depending on the severity of it.

On the other hand, if something annoyed me but not to the point where it directly was impacting me or any hypothetical family members, then I wouldn't really feel as emotional as if someone or something was. I'd keep my mouth shut if people around me felt differently as that is just common decency and also a rule I apply in life to not get beaten the hell out of.

Well that's kind of dumb.
No...what's REALLY dumb is getting yourself all worked up about how other people FEEL.

What are you really going to accomplish by getting angry? Do you think that if you tell someone, "I'm very offended by what you just said!", that they're suddenly going to re-think their entire position and change the way they feel?

darwinwap said:
If you let people speak whatever they want even if its offensive then might as well just start a war everywhere.
It's the exact opposite. Wars are far more likely to start because people are forced into silence and are told to "shut up and think like I do". If you let people speak, the most that can happen is you get into a war of words, whereas if you forcefully try to silence people, it's much more likely to turn physical.

darwinwap said:
The point here is have RESPECT and DECENCY. Lets say you have a kid who is autistic, would you appreciate it if people call him names?
Would I appreciate it? No. But there's a world of difference between appreciating something, and getting all worked up about it. I don't have to APPRECIATE it when someone says something idiotic. All I have to do is laugh at their stupidity and ignore them.

What's the better option if someone calls your kid names? Roll your eyes and walk away, or get into some kind of physical altercation? By walking away, you've allowed the person to express themselves - even if you don't like it, whereas if you try to escalate it, you could get into a fight and get seriously hurt (or even killed), and then later on get sued in court for medical bills and a slew of other things, on top of quite possibly getting arrested and then facing criminal charges which could affect your entire future.

Sometimes people just have to shut up and keep their opinions to themselves. We are all equals.
If we're ALL equals, then we should ALL be allowed to speak and voice our opinions - not only those who agree with YOU.

EKATERINA is plainly saying that same sex marriage should be discriminated as age difference. People will take offense with that and her reasoning is because same sex is not allowed in her country. Well its the reason people want to live in Canada because it recognizes EQUAL RIGHTS and diversity.
The majority of people emigrating to Canada do so for financial opportunities so that they can have a better life for themselves and for their families. Equal rights and diversity are down near the bottom of most people's considerations, unless they've been directly impacted by a lack of rights in their home countries.

When my dad came to Canada, it was to flee the communist oppression in Europe at the time. He knew that if he stayed there, his children would grow up to be slaves to the government for the rest of their lives, and would have no opportunities to make something of themselves. The last thing on his mind when choosing Canada was, "oh I really think Canada would be the best place to go because there are so many coloured people and Asians and Indians - so much diversity!"

The free ride thing is always a risk everyone takes. How many of these will last is anyone's guess. My wife is well educated and not poor. She has worked and lived abroad so its not like she couldn't immigrate here on her own anyway. She has an aunt in Alberta and a cousin in Ontario who could have sponsored her. She will have to work when she gets here so marrying me did not give her a pass to the easy life.

I assume you meant "could have sponsored her when she was a child".
