This is not uncommon. I have heard many couples prefer to sleep separate. I have a small wife and we have a big bed so there is lots of space for her to move around if she likes. Me ...I can sleep anywhere.
Awe...we actually sold our nice queen size bed I brought from the states. We sleep now in a full size bed and gives us more reasons to cuddle hehe. We sleep really good but I don't know if I will say the same things one, two, three or more years down the road :p I hear from other friends who sleep in separate beds too and it's not because of marital problems. I find it odd but hey that could be us in the future ::)

Our first bed in Canada was a double. We bought a queen when we got a bigger place. I miss the double bed. We we had less room, more snuggles. Although the cat takes up half the bed alone, so maybe we need a king now.........

If I tried to sleep in a separate bed, my husband would duct tape me to bed and never let me out.

Our first bed in Canada was a single. It was included in the condo that we bought. Now we have a king size, but especially in the hot summer months I would sleep separately.

Ours is a double as well. Hubby works shift work, three shifts, each different each week (IE this week is afternoons, next week is days, then midnights and back to afternoons). When he works midnights, I sleep like CRAP. Partly because I've gotten used to sleeping with him, partly because I'm paranoid the fire alarm will go off and I'll die in the fire :)

I'm addicted to sleeping with the hubby! He's a great snuggler. We're both "rotissery sleepers," rolling over again and again through the night. First he's big spoon, then it's rolling time, and I'm big spoon.

While I applied inland and we share a home, he's military. He'll have been gone fully half of our first year here when the anniversary of our move arrives in July. :( I've quit even trying to sleep in our queen bed when he's away. I just switch to the sofa, so I can fall asleep to the tv. Our bedroom is far too quiet without his breathing and light snoring, and our bed is way too big and empty when I'm alone in it. The husband says I'm like a vagrant, sleeping on the sofa, while I insist that vagrants don't have nice couches and flat screen tvs. :p He's like a sleep ninja; he can crash out in mere moments given a horizontal position, while I take a little longer to fall asleep. The first few days after he gets home after a deployment or course, I lay away for 20 minutes or half an hour, just thrilling in listening to his sleeping breaths and soft snores. I know, I'm a weirdo!

I have a terrible time sleeping alone too. When my husband worked night shift, I would be up until 4am waiting for him.

You're like me and your husband is like mine. I'm so jealous of how he can close his eyes and he's out!

He apparently takes after his maternal grandfather with his ninja sleeping skills. My "Canadian mom" (hubby's mom) told me the cutest story. Grandpa Hal (who unfortunately passed before I became a member of the family) married without informing his chain of command, so he would sneak off base at night to stay with his new bride. In the morning, he would sneak back on base by catching a ride in with the milkman. One day, the young wife heard the milkman quietly whisper-yelling for her, "Pssst, pssst...where is Hal?" She was confused, as Hal had gone out to wait for the milkman's truck a few minutes earlier, as usual. She walked out the door to look for him, only to find the young Grandpa Hal completely asleep standing up, leaning against the house! In the few minutes he was waiting, he passed out on his feet.
