If it's an outland app you don't necessarily have to leave After the 6 months. You can apply for an extension, which is usually granted though not guaranteed. CIC recommends you do so no later than 30 says prior to the expiration of your visa, though not mandatory. Well I'm assuming you are coming from a visa exempt country.

If you include an Open Work Permit (OWP) with the Inland application, and submit them both before your visitor status expires, you will then have `implied status' that carries you throughout the PR process; it means that you can legally remain in Canada while you wait.

If you do NOT include the OWP, you do NOT get implied status and must either extend your visitor status (which can be done online), or leave and hope that you are allowed to re-enter Canada. If you leave and are denied re-entry it could jeopardize your entire Inland application.

Ok yes, if it's inland then stay put. You will have implied status if you send in your application with (OWP app) before your legal status expires. If you left then there would be a risk of you not being admitted into Canada upon your return. your application can become null. There have been cases of people leaving and coming back. Usually they are from a via exempt country though. They seem to harass them less at the border crossings. I would say stay put. Everyone doesn't have the same luck.

Apply for an Extension of Status to remain in Canada on the CIC website. Do it online and do it now. If you do it after your current status expires, it becomes a "restoration of status."

It costs 100$ and it's fairly easy to do. You can remain in Canada on "implied status" while your EXTENSION is being processed (not your Inland application if you did not submit an OWP at the same time as the Inland).

Got it?
