Hi Everyone!

It's been so long since I've been on this forum. I originally sent my husband's permanent residence application in April 2012. We are living in the US. On Nov 5th, my husband got an email from immigration to get his fingerprints sent to RCMP to get a criminal clearance certificate from them and send it to immigration. My husband lived in Canada more than 6 months in 1999. So few days later he got them done here in the US and we sent them to RCMP. Now it's been almost 4 months since they probrably received it. I've emailed RCMP and they said his file is not in the system yet but doesn't mean they haven't received it and to email them back in a few weeks. I've also emailed immigration to let them know what is going on and they have granted us an extension and been accomodating so far, with me letting them know we are very serious about wanting to move to Canada and them telling us to let then know if we need another extension granted, incase we don't hear back from RCMP. I looked on the RCMP site and says it takes about 18 weeks to get the results...so I know that number is coming up fast. My last email to RCMP was to ask them if it is ok for us to drive to Vancouver, BC and get electronic fingerprints there if we don't hear back from RCMP in another month. So far no response. But in the meantime, any experience with waiting this long anyone? and how soon after you got back the results from RCMP did you hear something back from immigration about the next step? I hate that this is delaying everything and put on a standstill right now. I hope this is one of the last steps before we get approved! And I pray the fingerprints didn't get lost in the mail anywhere. I appreciate hearing any experiences with this. Thanks!

As far as I know, electronic results takes week to 10 days only. Best bet is come down to Vancouver, closest from peace arch would be

omg im in the exact same situation you described its so annoying! and im doing an outland so my wife is waiting in canada for me we thought ill be there by now... i missed her birthday :(
in my case its the immigration visa office who is dealing with RCMP not me.. they asked me in dec to send them (the visa office) my fingerprints and to pay RPRF fee and i did.. and waited and still waiting...
i was so nervous about it i went to immigration office to check whats going on with my file and they told me that im on the final stage and they are still waiting for my Criminal Clearance from RCMP.. i was shocked! this is the only thing that is delaying me why is it taking so long?

i also emailed RCMP last week to check with them and i got the same answer as you did.. so its not on their system yet this is ridiculous.... my wife want to come to my country she cant wait any longer... going to spend so much money because immigration is working so slow im so upset..

Thanks for the address of the place you went to for your electronic prints. We are going to wait til early April and if we still don't hear anything then we will head to BC to get the prints. I think it's ok to enter Canada...I emailed immigration to find out if it's ok, but no word yet...hopefully soon.

On the RCMP site, I found the section where it says processing times and it says it takes approximately 18 weeks. It will be almost 18 weeks for us in about a week or 2...so we'll see. Now I wish we had just driven to Vancouver, BC and did the electronic prints...would've been sooo much faster! I hope to hear something soon...I hope you hear something soon too. Yep, they said exactly the same thing to me...not in their system yet. We were hoping to move to Canada this Aug...I don't know if we'll meet that deadline anymore...but still hoping. You might have to give it 18 weeks to see...I will let you know when I hear something...at this point i just hope my husband's prints didn't get lost in the mail. Goodluck with yours as well!

My husband had to wait 6 months for the RCMPto complete his prints. This process is long and painful. I was just like you. I emailed them every week until finally after 7 months they finally forwarded his results to the embassy in Jamaica. Not only that, it's 18 weeks to complete once your prints are actually in the system. It's not counting the time that it's sitting there in their office.

That's a ridiculous long time! I will email RCMP and ask them about that cause if that's the case then i will just go to BC soon to get the prints.

I submit my doc in Oct last year and I emailed to the RCMP in March this year to ask how's everything.

This is what I got from them first :
Good Morning, Please be advised that your application for a Criminal Record verification was returned to you unprocessed on: Feb 18 2013 Enclosed with your returned application is a letter explaining the reason (s) for the return. Please follow the instructions indicated and provide the new documents as directed. Thank you for contacting us.

And this is the second:
Good day Did you submit another application after February 18 2013. if you have not received the unprocessed application back you must submit another application Paper based submissions can take up to 12 weeks and more to be inputted in our computer system due to the very high number of applications being sent to the RCMP Please contact us in a few weeks to see if it has been put in the system Thank you for contacting us.

I didn't submit another one. And They don't reply me back when i asked where my doc go. It's getting so frustrated:(

Hello everyone.
I'd like to know if I'll need to send a Criminal Clearance from RCMP.

I was detained in 2008 after a domestic dispute between my former boyfriend and I, in which the police became involved. Upon investigation, the case was withdrawn and there was no conviction.

If I do have to send it, could there be a problem?
Thank you all.

My husband sent in the fingerprints on November 8th, 2012. For weeks we emailed RCMP to find out if they processed the prints yet and each time they told us to email them back in a few weeks. All of a sudden on April 23rd, 2013 my husband got his approval for permanent residency!!! So not sure exactly which day the RCMP processed the prints as we never got any letter from them. Maybe cause I put a coverletter with the prints to RCMP to send the criminal clearance cert. to the immigration office with the address provided to them. But anyway, on the RCMP site, it says it can take up to 18 weeks approximately for the paper based fingerprints...and I think that is about how long it took for us.

we got ours done electronic through a company called Ottawa commisionares because my husband is in mexico so he couldn't go to Canada just for the prints. Through this company it only took them 24 hours to get the rcmp clearance back and in total it took 1.5 weeks to send back and forth the prints and documents etc but it did cost about $350 for the fees and shipping.

but once we sent the rcmp clearance to the embassy it took them 2 months and 1 week to email us back for the next step.
I also have another friend who did rcmp, it took them 1.5 months to email them back for the next step after receiving the rcmp clearance.

if the agency can convert a paper fingerprint to a digital one. RCMP should have this tech as well. I don't understand why it takes so long for them? One day vs 18 wks?!

I agree its crazy!!,
it shouldnt take 3 months to process prints and get a clearance.
but it was definatly worth the $350 we paid to get them done faster.

If you have spent six months in Canada yes you need to do it. Your case was withdrawn so it is not a big deal. I would probably disclose the arrest (or detainment in your case). Hopefully whatever agency detained you has record of this. I personally had been arrested once 10 years ago only to have the charges dropped. I didn't wait for them to ask I just contacted the police department and asked for my record there and sent it in with my FBI and RCMP clearances. Just to keep from being delayed.
