Hello everyone,

First of all thank you to all the people that are part of this forum it have a lot of valuable information for all the international students.

This is my case and i will like to have an advice. I have a F1 visa starting on December 16 of 2013 , i arrived to US on December 29 to start my graduate studies here in U.S. I have start my program in january and i realize that i don't like this program is to academic and i was guessing to be more industry based or something different and also i have some difference with my advisor. By the other hand, i also have an admission to a Canadian school and i like that a lot. I want to apply for my study permit ( here in USA) and change to the other school however i have F1 visa for 5 years ( Phd program). I have for the Canada school scholarship and additional support of an institute. What chances do i have is to start in May 1, i also ask for a deferral process they give also admission for September 1. I don't know what to because i am here in USA with my family (Wife and Child). Should i apply for may admission and send back home my wife and daughter and then they can apply in our home for the visa. or i should apply with my family here to the September admission. I have both option.

Thank you very much for your help !!!

Concerning you family, you all could apply at once. A wife for visitor visa or open work permit, a child -- for visitor visa (if she is under school age) or for study permit if she is at school.

If you have all papers ready apply for May, you are already in North America.:) Just write a good SOP for VO about your reasons for such a change. (You already discribed them in your post, just do not write about your differences with your advisor! :D)

well u still can apply in US for may as ur in the processing time window
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp/students.asp#west
u and ur family can apply together as long as u have all the necessary documents and funds available
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-how-documents.asp#doc3
its ur choice if u want to apply together or separate not much difference u will have to show same funds.

on a side note: Phd is mostly research based and i dont believe there would be much difference between US and canada. I personally believe US is better in terms of jobs but choice is urs.

24900+9000+3000=36900.
What are conditions of you PhD in Canada in terms of grant?
I do not know much about who pays whom for doing PhD. How long it takes to finish?

Anyways, there are three of you and that means you have to have at least $10000+4000+3000=17000 available for living expenses a year. + tuition if any - grant you would be getting (?).

It is better to go and apply for visas all together. You child is too young to go to school, so a visitor visa for her.

About when to get OWP for your wife- I really do not know. I would ask a visitor for her too and then apply for OWP from within Canada. Anyway you have to show enough funds (current and future cash flows) for a whole family.

Hi Regina!

I'm going to start a master program in Vancouver, but I can't find information about my daughter's education. She is 8 years old and currently is studying 3rd grade. I visited some schools boards websites and they say that I have to pay her tuition ($13000) as an international student.

Is that true? Do I have to apply to get a letter of Acceptance for her?

Please help me!
Bradley

Hi ,

I have inquired on this from Director of Instruction - International and in Victoria BC. The tuition fees for kids of international students is free if one is in masters course > 1 year.

This was the response.
Thank you for our email. It has been passed along to me for follow up and reply. With the information provided in your message, your children would not be required to pay fees as your studies will be in a Graduate Studies Program and your Study Permit good for more than one year. As such, both are fundable under Ministry of Education Guidelines.

You may. If you write a request to School board of the city where you are going to stay, they will provide you with an answer in a letter as mentioned above.

You see your kid have to have a SP, so you have to apply for one. The only thing is about tuition for a kid : to pay or not to pay. Ask the School Board.
