1. If you are taking an English language course, then you are not required to show any proficiency in French.
2. If you want to prove your proficiency in French then you have to take one of the following tests:

DELF (Diplôme d’études en langue française)
DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française)
TEF (Test d’évaluation du français)
TCF (Test de connaissance du français)
Diplôme de langue (DL)
DFP (Diplômes de français professionnel)

3. It will be helpful to learn French, if you are moving to Quebec.

Yes Inam, I know about the tests & I will be starting preparation very soon.

Please help me with the below mentioned queries:

1.Canada is the destination, could be any part of Canada, how much advantage(knowing french) would i get in terms of getting study permit irrespective of English/French speaking place in Canada?

2.Would knowing french open the doors of Universities in french speaking places? What will be the job prospectus after completion of course?

3.Would knowing a local language help me(how much) after arriving there to get a job irrespective of part time/full time or surviving there?

4.Do I have to only prove the proficiency of a particular language in which I will persuing the course on?

5.I am unable to get into Canadian Unversity in english language but in french language(like quebec), how the job prospectus is compared on completion of a degree in english language or french language?

6.Overall advantages of knowing french?

1. I don't think it will effect getting a study permit as it is not a requirement for study permit unless your course is in French.

2. Yes, indeed it will distinguish you from other international students who don't know French.

3. It should (not sure exactly)

4. Yes, You have to show the proficiency in only that language in which the course is offered.

5. You can join University of Ottawa, it is a bilingual university. Job market will be good but not as good as if you know english. Close to twenty-five percent of the Canadian population speaks French and the rest speak mostly English.

6. If you know both English and French then definitely you have advantage but if you know only French and not English then things might not be that easy.

Thanks buddy for the info, much appreciated...

Situation:

I am unable to get into a degree course(MBA) in an University(as I m not meeting the minimum academic requirements) but able to get into a diploma/certificate(PGDM) course in a college, both the cases are for English language.

But with the same academic status I am able to secure a sit in an University(Quebec n all) for degree course(MBA) in french language.

Staying in a english speaking country(75% of population speaks english, as per your info) would definitely give an edge to anybody's english proficiency level.

note: I am very much familiar with English language & soon will be same with French too...

1.What do you think, is this situation possible?

2.If possible, what should I do & why?

3.What could be the negative aspects of the suggestion u give?

Saikat,

As a Bilingual (French/English) candiadate, you have more opportunities to land a job. My french is limited and that some how has become a barrier for me to work for the federal government.

Someone with Education, Experience and Bilingual (Eng-Fr) has better chances (50% more than those who don't) to success in his/her job searching.

Just take as much French and English as you can. It will pay off BIG TIME.

Saikat,

After arriving, you would like to set priorities:

1) Landing Process
2) Applying for DL, SIN, OHIC
3) Bank Accounts
4) Take English/French Tests (Free of Charce) as there are dozens of Newcomers Agencies everywhere in Canada to assist International Trained Proffessionals like you.
5) Universities will give you a test to know your marks. (After Registration)

My advice: (Learn as much as possible the two official languages if you happen to have the time, and save money as much as you can). It will make a difference in your life.

Don't leave it to luck; that doesn't work in Canada.
