Hello all,

I have a question regarding this form (IMM 5406).

First of all I want to mention that I am a Canadian Citizen (by birth), I was married in Greece and had both my children born there. I have made my children Canadian Citizens (they have their Certificate of Citizenship) and we recently moved to Toronto. I am now filling out the forms to sponsor my wife, who is Greek (born in Germany!). My wife's family is living in Greece (and has no plans to come live here). They consist of a brother (who is married with children) and her parents (mother and father).

Do i have to complete this form? I am only sponsoring my wife. My in-laws or brother-in law will most likely never come here. Perhaps only for a visit.

You already asked this question in 3 other threads.
The answer is always the same, No.

I apologize for that. I did ask a similar question but for a different form (Additiional Dependants Declaration form - IMM 0008DEP) as i thought i should ask on the appropriate thread.

So, I take it that in our case, for both of these forms, the "principal applicant" does not need to fill them out.

no, your understanding is wrong here. please re-read my previous answer about the additional family information form (IMM 5406):

you as the sponsor do not fill out the form, since this is a form for applicants applying for PR. ONLY the principle applicant (and any dependants listed in the application applying for PR) need to fill out the additional family information form. Your wife's family, you and your children will need to be listed on her form.

For application purposes, you are not the "spouse" or "family member". you are ONLY the sponsor, and the sponsor does not fill out any applicant forms.

This means:

The Principal applicant definitely needs to fill out the additional family information form (IMM 5406), as it is a required applicant form. The additional DEPENDANT form (IMM 0008DEP) only needs to be filled out if the applicant has a dependant (child) also seeking PR status.

The SPONSOR - you - do not fill out these forms because you are not an applicant. you are a sponsor and only need to fill out sponsor forms. Your wife, the principal applicant must fill out all required applicant forms. if she doesn't have children applying for PR with her, then she does not have dependants and does not need to fill out the dependant form.

the principal applicant and the sponsor fill out different forms. just because you the sponsor doesn't have to fill out the form, doesn't mean the your wife principal applicant doesn't need to do so. use the guide and the checklist. the sponsor ONLY fills out the forms on the sponsor's list. The applicant ONLY fills out the forms on the applicant list.

Crystal clear! Thank you all!

If Principal Applicant's marital status is separated (not yet divorced and neither legally separated but separated for a decade), does his/her "ex-spouse" has to submit Additional Family Information?

Hi people, I have received an ADR request for IMM 5406. I have a question regarding that.

My biological mom expired when I was a child and my passport has her name in mother's section.

My father remarried after that. Now, in the IMM 5406 form
1. whose name should I mention for mother section?
2. what will be the marital status of my dad?

I have 6 days to submit the document, any advise is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

You put your biological mother's name; if she has passed away, there is an option for deceased.
If your father re-married, and is still married then his marital status is married

Thank you very much for your reply. This means, I don't have to mention anthing about my step mom, right?
Should I attach documents like death certifacte of my biological mom and marriage certifcate of my father and step mom?

No, I do not have any siblings, half siblings. I am alone. Thanks for your guidance. I'm gonna fill out the form now. Do you know if I can sign the form digitally? Due to pandemic my access to printer has become a challenge.
