Hello All,

My husband has just received a letter from the Canadian Consulate in Jamaica asking for additional documents, I assume "proof" of the legitimacy of our marriage. They suggest things like correspondence, phone bills, etc.

We lived together, in Canada for over two years and he has been in Jamaica since October (whole other story). We definetly have the sorts of things they are requesting, however I am interested in any input for users as to what other things they have sent in and thought was useful for Immigration. I just want to give them all they want and more...

Thanks in advance for your advice/input.

Good Luck to all those spouses waiting, the waiting tears your heart out but you know that your wife or husband is the only one to keep your heart together, so NEVER NEVER NEVER GIVE UP!

They want to see photos with dates and occasions written on the back, or copies made on paper from digital originals. Together, with other family members, trips that you made together, attending other family gatherings where there were witnesses to the fact that you were there together and they may have been in the picture too.
Phone bills or calling cards that show evidence of a large quantity of calls made between the two of you.
Western Union receipts and/or bank statements showing involvement of personal and financial affairs.
Correspondence between you showing ongoing personal interaction like greeting cards, emails, letters etc. even from other family members congratulating you on your union, an occassion spent together, an anniversary or other milestone dates that you were together for- Xmas, birthdays etc.
Boarding passes from visits, bills from hotels you may have stayed at on visits or a honeymoon.

Hope that will give you ideas for other things to show them about your history together. Good luck

I have also submitted medical test reports, doctor's prescription and bills which were borne during her (my wife) stay with me. I also submitted letter from HR of my employer that my wife is dependant family member and eligibile for all benefits as per rules and regulations for medical etc. I provided certificate from my emloyer that she is a sole beneficiary of all my insurance. The calling cards which I have used to call her could be traced back for atleast three months to the number that have been called. Try to provide evidence which involves third parties. Try to give as much evidence as possible. Letters from your family members about you and your husband's relationship, how it developed and what do they think about it is also useful. You have to basically thrust yourself upon them with evidence that will make your relationship irrefutable to anybody. Wish you good luck!

Hi Gotchaa,
Just wondering how it is that your employer could put your wife on all the insurance for your benefits if she is not a yet a Canadian resident, but it sounds like it probably can be anyone in any country that can receive your insurance benefits, is that true? thanks

Well our marriage took place according to Pakistani laws and I have submitted my marriage certificate in my bank to change my status from unmarried to married and also included my wife's name as my family member. They cannot tell me who should I marry as long as I marry according to the laws. She is my legitimate wife in the records and eligible for all benefits as my dependent family member regardless of her being citizen of Canada or anywhere else for that matter.
