If you want to add your spouse's name in your passport, I hope you can get it done from your embassy in Canada.
Even if you get a new passport while you are away from Canada, you can re-enter Canada with your PR Card, Old passport and new passport. Keep your cancelled passport clipped to the new one. Adding spouse name in your passport is not compulsory for sponsoring her to Canada.

I think person can only have one valid passport. So they would take the old one away when you are signed the new one. Only time when you can keep the old one is when it has been expired. When I got a new passport due to a name change, they asked if I have any valid visas on my old passport. This of course might vary in different countries, but I would ask from the office who signs the passports.

That's true, only ONE valid passport in your possession, but with Canadian passports they VOID the old one and you keep it. Quite literally they punch a series of holes through the thing, and those holes spell the word V-O-I-D. I have all my previous passports in my possession.

Ok, good to know. I think there is different rules in different countries. It's good if you can keep your old passport like that! In Finland they take it away if it would've still been usable and you can only keep the old one if it has expired. I would have loved to keep my old passport, too bad they took it. :(

You can keep your old passport if you say you lost it.

You can "keep" your old Canadian passport ... period! The only one you can't keep is when you opt for the free update to a baby's passport available within the first three years (babies grow quickly) ... THEN you must surrender the original one.

It is not a requirement but good to make your case more genuine and strong..
Try to get this done from Indian embasy with in Canada..reason it will take much less time and hastle...
In India if not tatkal it can take upto 45 days or more....
is your wife going to do the same ?...consider if it is worth your time and case...

you need valid PR card to travel back with your indian passport... There should not be any canadian visa stamped on your passport ?
Hope this help..

Hi:
Could anyone let me know how can someone apply for entering his or her spouse name on Indian passport while residing in Canada?
what is the process for that?
Thank you in advance.
