Hi, I am a Filipino accountant with CPA license and local work experience. I am applying for PR visa via Canadian express entry (FSW). I am wondering if I would need a separate license in order to work in Canada (if I obtain a PR visa). Do I need to take any exam first in order to be hired in Canada?

Assuming you are a CPA with the Filipino authority, you will have to register with the CPA board in the province where you want to work (Ontario, Alberta, etc). Depending on the country they might have some exemptions for you or a process to register you with the local CPA board.

Best would be to contact the Canadian province's CPA board directly.

But for jobs, it totally depends on what kind of opportunity you find and how you interview etc. Depending on the situation, employers might ask you to register with CPA Canada first, or give you sometime to register, or not even ask you about it. But registering with CPA Canada will definitely help your chances of securing a job.

can anybody shed some light on the status of accounting and finance jobs in Canada in general?

Asking for somebody who just got his ITA and is a finance manager in the UAE (working for a british company and he has done his ACCA).

As I know, you will need to take an exam first and only then you can be hired in Canada. But I would recommend you to ask advice at high qualified people in this sphere.

It goes without saying, it is a great chance to work in Canada. Conditions for workers are pretty good there. And of course salary is high. One of my cousins works in Canadian company, and she likes it. What I would recommend you is to talk about these issues with high qualified people. I could recommend you https://apmaccountants.ie/ and I know that you’ll find answers to your questions. This is an accountancy firm with high qualified team. I work in the business sphere 2 year yet. It was very hard from the beginning. But thanks them I always find answers to my questions. I wish you success even if you’ll have to take an exam. I hope I could encourage you and my advice was useful for you.
