Hello,

I'm nearly eligible to apply for citizenship and would appreciate guidance on how to answer some... technical questions.

Marital status: In my 2022 PR application I put Marital Status as "Divorced" and then later updated to "Common-Law", which they noted in my eCOPR which I got in Feb 2023. Few months later my relationship ended. Do I revert back to "Divorced" or am I "Single"?

Work experience: For last 2 years I was both employed and self-employed (I run a consulting business on the side). I quit my job in November 2024 to focus full time on my business.... I do I need to provide a letter of explanation noting why I was employed & self-employed at the same time?

Cheers,

Put whichever you think is most accurate.

For each respective period, you put your full-time occupation. Period. Don't overthink it.

Bro thanks, you're still here answering questions???? Jesus, aren't you tired of it?

Also, can I submit an expired CELPIP for the language proof? They have said nothing about whether it needs to be valid.

Why would you add questions to someone who according to you should be done answering those?

Also, you haven't checked the source. It absolutely says whether the submitted test can be expired : https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...adian-citizen/eligibility/language-proof.html

Thanks for that, what I'm trying to get it as I really admire armoured, he's been around for years and for someone to volunteer their time on a forum like this for as long as he has is a wonderful thing. I'd tip him if I could!

You are fine submitting the invalid results.

Hi @scylla & @armoured, sorry to bother you.

So I'm going with "SEPARATED" for the marital status as it is the most accurate. I'll be eligible to file for citizenship tomorrow.

But I just made an oopsie, I submitted my 2024 taxes today and accidentally put "Single" in my filing, and the CRA updated my marital status to "Single" in my tax account.

I'll try to get them to fix it asap, but I don't want to delay my citizenship application. Do you guys think its okay to submit a letter of explanation with my citizenship application to let IRCC know:
  • I made a mistake regarding my marital status in my 2024 tax filing
  • I am working to correct it ASAP
  • I am confirming my marital status is SEPARATED
