Hi Guys,

I have a question regarding my CEC application and I hope someone is able to answer this. I am currently working as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Western University and as a postdoc fellow, I am issued with a T4A slips and I can see from the posts here that T4A slips are acceptable for postdoc fellows.

Now here's my question:

I started my employment on 16th October, 2013, which means I will be eligible to apply for CEC after 16 October 2014. For the year 2013, I was issued with the T4A slip, which covered 2 and a half months worth of employment. I filed my taxes for this period and got my NOA. Now, for the year 2014, I will not be issued the T4As until the end of this year. Moreover, I won't get my NOA before May/June 2015. I dont think its a good idea to postpone my application till May next year. Could someone please give me some suggestions on how to proceed with my application? Are letters from my employer, supervisors and my paystubs going to be enough in this situation to establish one year's work experience?

Thanks in advance for you help!

CIC states submit the application with past 2 year NOA. You do not need to worry about NOA for 2014. If they want it they will ask in 2015. For not 2013 and 2012 should suffice.

Hi hondaFan13,

Thanks a lot for your timely response. I do not have the T4A for 2012 either, only for 2013. Will they be enough in this situation?

Once again, thank you for your help and timely response!

if you did you taxer for 2012 than request it from CRA. If there were no taxes done than all you have is 2013. Submit what you have, I would say.

You can create "My Account" with CRA to retrieve old T4 and NOAs also .

Thanks for your response guys. No, pre-October 2013, I do not have any history whatsoever in Canada. I moved to Canada in October 2013 as a TFW and started my employment.

I guess the answer lies in hondaFan13's earlier response, that if required, CIC will contact me for 2014 T4As and NOA in 2015.

Hi

CIC will review your file and ask you to supply T4's and NOA's for all the years in Canada. They will not ask for the 2014 T4 or NOA in 2014 as they know they are not completed until 2015.

Note I did not send any T4's or NOA's with my application. CIC requested the documents just prior to my MR request.

Thx

A

you can be pro-active and send the noa once you get it. I did that and that possibly sped up the things for me...

Thanks for your response Dr_Midnite. Your post further clarifies a lot of things.

hondaFan13, I think that is a very useful suggestion. Plus, I will mention about this in a cover letter aswell.

Exactly. Send a cover letter. That is what I did. And instead of your T4, if you have paystubs, you can send them the latest one you have so that they can see how many hours you have worked year to date, as well as your wages. Don't delay your application, as, by the time they get to processing it, you will certainly have your T4 already :)

Thanks for your response WInter27996. Actually, this brings me to another problem. The paystubs dont really show the number of hours worked. For YTD, I just see an increase of 4.2 hours per month. Probably because my salary per month is fixed and I do not have any hourly rate. However, my employer will issue me with a letter which shows my hours of work per week. Do you think that will be enough? Should I or should I not submit my pay stubs?

I would submit both. Submit the pay stubs and the employer letter, and mention why you did so in you cover letter. The more information they have, the easier it will be for them to understand the situation, and it will lead to a faster processing time, as they will not have to request additional information :)

Hi Winter27996! Thanks a lot for your suggestion! I am planning to do exactly that!

Also, I figured out that my pay stub YTD hours show the accumulative "Working Weeks" for the year. For example, 20 working days in a month make 4 working weeks. So by that rule, this year, January had 23 working days, which make 4.6 working weeks. This pattern holds for every month of the year.

Hello,

I am going to apply under CEC next month. Just want to ask that I have T4 & NOA + Reference letter from previous employer from 2013. But I don't have any T4 & NOA from current employer.

I just have employer reference letter from current employer. SO what else I can send if I don't have current year T4 ?
Is It OK that HR manager of company gives me reference letter ??
Can anyone have sample formate for employment ref. letter ?
And Is it necessary to write cover letter ? What I can include in it ?

Hi Raj2014,

I think you can submit the reference letter plus the pay stubs from your new employer. That should be enough. As far as the contents of the reference letters are concerned, please see Section 10 of the Checklist for CEC application. The link is given below:

Also, in addition to a letter from HR, a letter from your manager or supervisor would also be very helpful.
