Do i need to wait for Citizenship certificate to be issued first and then start a name change. Looking to change wife surname by adding my last name. We (Me & Wife) passed the citizenship test and awaiting for the Oath. Please advise. Thanks!

Advisable to wait and then do it.
That's what I did too...

Is she also applying for citizenship? Only she is changing name? If it's only with respect to your citizenship app, her change of name is irrelevant, go ahead.

Yes she applied for citizenship. It is family application. We passed the test.

Thanks. Can you please explain me the process. I applied for citizenship for wife as well.
You may refer below thread for more information, once you have Citizenship cert in hand, first step is to get a name change cert from the province & then update rest other provincial IDs and at this point if you would like you can apply for Canadian PP with Citizenship cert with old name in it or you can wait for 12+ months to get a new Citizenship cert with updated name then apply for Canadian PP.

Most of us just went with Citizenship cert with old name and applied for a PP with supporting documents as a name change cert from the province.

I assume you mean you are intending to change her name by using her marriage certificate?

I would just accept the citizenship certificate will be in her maiden name.

My understanding is you should be fine though in 'changing' her name - use the marriage certificate to update her eg Ontario docs, bank stuff, etc - and you can submit for the passport when citizenship certificate is received. Passport will be in new name (if you specify properly).

The citizenship cert can be changed after it is received but it might take eg 18 mos. But it doesn't really matter because the (maiden name) citizenship certificate + marriage cert will be enough to show she-is-she and she-is-citizen.

Personally I don't see any reason to wait until later in her case but if others can explain why

Yes by using marriage certificate.
Okay so I think I will change name on PP with supporting docs. Thanks for your response.
