Hello everyone,

I am really concerned right now! I just got an email from the medical doctor tonight at 9pm stating that abnormal findings were present in my medical exam x-ray. I just had it done about a week and a half ago in Canada while visiting my husband. I am ticked because it's now too late to call for the weekend and will have to sit with this until I can call on Monday and figure this out...

What could this be?! Anyone have this happen to them? What does this mean moving forward?

I am a nursing assistant, so I was just tested for TB in January and it was negative, but I am going to have my work retest me. What are other things they look for in the x-ray?

I tried to post a picture of the email, but it won't let me post a link.

Grading & Examiner Declaration
With 2 options, A or B (A meaning nothing abnormal and no significant history found)
Grade B was selected which said by it
"Significant history or abnormal findings present."
Then it has General Supporting Comments
and written in the blank was: abnormal x ray
Then it had a code under it which said: 3986

Was it the doctor where the x ray was taken or CIC medical? If the former it's a strange one as they would've seen it then and there to make sure it was a clear x ray, as in a good x ray. I know it's hard but try not to worry.

when we applied, my husband got his medical done in Canada, and about 2 weeks later he got a phone call from the medical office saying his x'ray was abnormal and they wanted to send him to the TB clinic for further testing.

So he went to the TB clinic about 4 or 5 times over the next year and got multiple xrays done and skin testing and sputum testing, and everything was clear. They wanted to monitor his lungs to see if anything changed, but luckily he was fine and they were just being cautious.

They may just have seen something not normal and want to do another xray or test to make sure there is nothing wrong

Being Canadian, i have noticed our doctors are very cautious, even the smallest thing they will send you for extra testing just to make sure.

Im sure everything is fine, just call and find out what they need next and cross your fingers they dont want to do a million other tests.!

It's very difficult to be in this situation because I have no idea what they found. I am not sure if they will tell me either because I got a screen shot of the document that they are sending to immigration, not even sure if I am suppose to see it. It's concerning to me though because I work with elderly and am tested for TB yearly, but if I have Tuberculosis in any form, I am going to need to go job hunting because I can't work.

It could be that I moved though and they didn't like the image, or something else, my nose was a little stuffy that day, but I was outside quite a bit of it and can get allergies.

There seems to be a high incidence of reports on here similar to LeisaP's than from people who truly have TB

That's interesting that it's happening frequently, hopefully that means that I should be able to get past it pretty quick. I specifically went to Canada to get it done because I thought it would quicken things, not potentially now slow them down. It cost us $250 for the appointment, and recently I had a physical here in the states, as well as was tested for TB 7 months ago and everything said I was perfectly healthy...

How much did this add to the length of your wait time for PR Card? We are just about to get all our documents in, already paid, but I am praying this won't put our application back. I am hoping we can solve this maybe even before he gets accepted as a sponsor if that's even possible... If I call the doctors, do you think they will be able to tell me exactly what was abnormal in my x-ray?

It's CIC that contact you re: x ray. If the doctor who performed the exam contacted you then who knows. Seems v strange and may just be a case they didn't check the x ray at the time, which they should do to make sure it's clear. I know it's the UK, but at the time of my exam the doctor told me I needed to have additional tests and see a doctor re: UTI only they refused to tell me it was a UTI. Just a bunch of results and told me to go see my own doctor.

It was actually the doctors office which sent me a copy of a form which was sent to the CIC. Not entirely sure I was suppose to receive the document, but I am glad I did because otherwise I might have not known for a while. It's basically a screen capture of a web page they were sending to CIC that had B checked off and was really brief within the comments. Not sure why they couldn't say "Abnormal x ray, suspect TB" or "Abnormal x ray, need to redo" or something with more detail! It's alarming to anyone to hear something is abnormal, but at least I suspect then that my blood work and other stuff went just fine. I just hope if I contact the doctor on Monday, he will be able to tell me something without me having to wait to hear if from the CIC!

Well if its a suspected but false reading CIC may well have you rested again closer to approval time. It may well delay but not huge amounts. There has been quite a few reports on here of similar. My doctor told me I would be very lucky, due to a number of ailments, to get into Canada but most likely would be refused. This scared the crap out of me for ages despite knowing he was talking bs. So I know it's easier said than done not stressing x

Yeah, we have a lot of friends from Mexico living in Canada do and a few of them have been sent for extra TB testing, only to find out there is nothing wrong. But my husband said its still common to have TB and to die from it in Mexico, so it didn't surprise him that they were doing extra testing.

Well we got lucky kind of, because we did the medical, than we realized there was some other documents we needed before we could apply so we didn't apply until about 8 months later. So by the time the Visa office got our application the medical was expired so he was asked to redo it in his home country Mexico, and when he redid it they said everything was good and no need for any further tests.

They told my husband exactly what they found and why they thought it was abnormal and why they wanted to do testing, they didn't hide anything from him.

Also that's crazy the cost of your medical!! we only paid $150 in Vancouver to get it done back in 2011.

Did you call the doctor and find out what he was contacting you about yet?

That's unfortunate they told you that you would be refused due to medical issues.

I have only heard of one case being refused because of medical, and it was a person sponsoring their parents and dependent brother who had downs syndrome, they denied it saying he would need to much medical care. But the family appealed and im not to sure if they won or not, but I imagine they most likely won it. they were very wealthy and could easily afford the sons medical expenses.

but I agree don't worry to much about it, they will sort it out. hopefully it wont cause to many delays

Well the doctor said CIC would refuse me during my exam. Got confirm after a CSI that I had passed.

Yeah, that is bad on the doctors end. Since he clearly doesn't know anything about who passes and who doesn't.
But glad you passed!! :)
