guys sorry to burst your bubble, just because you would want to pay higher processing fees, that does not translate faster processing times. the problem is not with shortage of people, not with underfunding, it is with the mindset, with the mental blockage. now not many of you would accept it with me, but more likely than not that is the problem!
I agree with you. In 2006 and 2007, my friends got citizenship with 3-4 months of applying. Was CIC workforce at that time 6 times more than it is today? I doubt....

The people (CIC Officers) here are obsessed with people leaving Canada after getting CA passport. So don't feed their obsession. Don't travel abroad, don't move around, etc. You can call this a mental blockage or whatever else. Understand the whole situation. It almost has nothing to do with how much you pay for the processing fees.

It is a knee jerk reaction by the ruling government following the discovery of cases with fraudulent applications for citizenships. I think the Conservative government gave a directive to CIC to be very strict with citizenship applications. Therefore CIC is making it hard for everyone. As applicants, there is nothing we can do except fulfilling their requirements whatever they maybe and just wait however long it maybe. However, at some point they will realize they went too far and they will make it easier/faster.

Just how right is this? Government expecting its citizens not to leave/visit out of the country, naturalized or born here. Let me say you, it is against the constitution. if Harper and his folks are so concerned about this then why don't they make Canada the best place to live so that people will find it very hard to move around. Majority of the people who are expatriates are Canadian-born and are of Caucasian descent. Personally I don't have anything against them, but the government wont dare to stem the leak on that side because it knows it can get its hands burnt if it even tried to do it. So this whole argument that people are just waiting to get their passport to move out of Canada has become so cliche'd and tell you what: if these people are at fault if they move out, then is not the Canadian government equally at fault for not creating enough economical opportunities for these people who are looking for greener pastures? I also wonder how come people say they are a burden to tax payers, when clearly Canada taxes on world income, most provinces offer universal health care only after at least 3 months of residency and Canadians naturalized or by birth cannot indefinitely pass on their citizenships to their descendants while being expatriates, it is now restricted to just one generation.
Please do not get the wrong idea that im for the idea to leave ASAP after acquiring passports. All Im saying is travelling where your career, education and family takes you is one of your rights being a part of a developed advanced and free nation like Canada; all im saying is you shouldn't be willing to give up your right because the government is ineffective in catching the real misusers, if at all any! Also I want you to understand if you do think this as a problem, then don't impose it so hard on yourselves, as it takes two hands to clap. Not just new immigrants, even Canadians who were so for generations are expatriates who went to take better opportunities and that's how it they want it to be. All Harper can be concerned about is if they're getting their tax money from each of these expatriates on what they make.

or definitely past 2015 elections. with the generally miserable performance of the current government, not just the CIC part alone, I see their days are getting counted.

The dilemma is once we become citizen we will forget all these suffering and let alone the immigrant to face the problem. The new Citizens also don't want to raise their voice against what they suffered during the immigration period to transforming period, leave alone old citizens. I am not complaining anything as this country has given me lot more than I can expect as an immigrant but equation is not equal to all of us.

I think MPs and representative are also least bother about the new immigrants rights as they know new immigrants cannot go for voting to affect them, moreover they also know that once citizen, the new citizen has no sympathy left for new immigrant; means new immigrants has no right to bring their voice in Parliament, they don’t have any representation as MPs are not elected by their votes.
