A question on canadian immigration

Hi

I would like to migrate to Canada; I have a Phd in engineering field
and heard from one of the immigration company that I would need a professional
certificate for an year. Is that correct ? I have been in the teaching field for about 15
years - teaching engineering graduates

I do not have any professional experience - should I discontinue my efforts
to apply - I hope not.

Then does it make sense for me to apply via 1122 - Team Training specilist category ?
I am still working as a professor and do not have industry experience.
