I've been informed that the Canadian Embassy Manila requires that you must land in Canada with a minimum of 6 months validity on your passport. This is ridiculous since Canada only requires a valid passport that extends to the departure date of your stay. In the case of an immigrant landing, the passport just needs to be valid. There is no 6 month rule in Canada (unlike Philippines and some other countries).

Does anybody know if this is true? Why would you need to land before 6 months expiry on your passport? Does anybody else have such experience?

Yup.

My Passport was due November 2012 and I went to go travel to Asia including Philippines last September 2012 and went back on October 2012. I had to renew my passport because it was less than 6 months of validity. I don't really know the rationale behind this but apparently, this is true.

Also, I had a friend who submitted their application with the PP of less than 6 months to expire. I heard that they had to re do everything, but I don't know if it has something to do with the PP expiration. But anyway, they had to renew the PP and wait for another month or two.
