My thai GF's first app was refused in January. I requested the visa officers notes - they claimed she would have an economic motive to stay in Canada and that her purpose of travel was vague and poorly documented. So in the second application i did a cover letter to refute the reasons for rejection. I also translated the title deeds of the 3 properties she owns in Thailand (they are in Thai and I did not translate them in the first app).
I also sent a letter to my MP, complaining of the process and explaining very thoroughly why the VO had erred in her decision. So he wrote a very solid "letter of support" that I included in the second application.
I also booked myself a flight to Thailand for later this year and and attached this to my invitation letter (the logic is that if I have booked a trip to Thailand after my GF's visit to Canada, obviously she has no plan to stay in Canada).
So I have no idea what helped the most but I thought I would share the "letter of support" idea since I hadn't heard of that before.
My GF's flight is less than 2 weeks away (non=refundable ticket). So got the approval just in time! Phew....

And a big thank you to Bryanna for her valuable advice!!

This is absolutely fantastic after a roller coaster ride of optimism and pessimism :):)

Truly happy that your girlfriend got her TRV JIT. Congrats

ok so a bunch of people have asked for me to email, so I created a document cloud to share:

https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:3e40fe9e-b4cd-4645-87b3-428ea54aed47

Bear in mind that I asked for help as the host of the applicant because I am a Canadian resident and taxpayer. If you are the applicant, then you would have to ask your host to possibly get this type of assistance.

BTW, after refusing her first application because they were concerned she would stay beyond the term of her visa, they issued a visa for 2 YEARS!! (she only asked for 2 weeks)

Just a little thought:
If you order GCMS notes, you'd probably find that the MP's letter is only acknowledged as submitted. It would not be the document that sealed the deal. Probably did not impact the application at all.

Your girlfriend's reworked paperwork worked. Not the MP's letter.

Someone I know included a letter and even had the MP's office look into the TRV cases of his family who had been previously refused.... and yet this MP's letter did not impact their new applications. They were refused again. BTW his MP was the former Immigration Minister

I agree that my revised application was stronger regardless of the support letter and probably my would have been successful on its own. I actually wrote to my MP to complain about the process, not for a "support letter", but they offered it and so naturally I figure it can only help. Also I do think it may have helped make my application stand out and probably forced the officer to do a thorough review (unlike the first application where I think they just saw the word "boyfriend" and pushed the no button).
I wrote a three page cover letter refuting the three reasons for rejection and I shared this with my mp's office and they thought it was very compelling.

MP's offices provide letters of support to absolutely anyone who requests these letters. By that reasoning, everyone who includes a letter from the MP, should be granted a visa. But, it doesn't work that way. We have seen the GCMS notes of applicants who were refused even though they had included a letter from the MP.

Some advice to anyone who reads this thread:
MPs letters won't get you visa approvals. IRCC cannot be influenced by these letters which will only be recorded in your file. Instead, you must prepare stronger applications with better evidence and explanations
