In the 2017 forum someone said one of the cic agents had told them that it's the "Work permit extension (new employer).Hello,
When checking for SOWP timelines on CIC's website. Which category do you pick from the drop-down menu...WORK PERMIT or WORK PERMIT EXTENSION?
I don;t think I can answer all of your questions, however, I do know that once you are married, if you fill out an application with CIC you must declare that you are married and include your husband in the application form or else CIC might flag you for misrepresentation. Also, just to inform you, your husband must be divorced if you are going to get legally married again for Canada to recognize the marriage, and apply for spousal sponsorship as married. The only other option is if you have lived with each other for at least a year, then you can apply as Common Law if his divorce has not been finalized yet.Hello Everyone,
I am posting here hoping to find a suggestion on how to proceed with spousal sponsorship in my situation.
So I got my COPR Visa valid till 17th June 2018 and I will mostly travel in April to finish my landing formalities.
My boyfriend and I are planning to get married sometime in the next couple of months and I want to include him in my application.
How soon can I include him in my application once we are married? Should I be having a job for sure to include him in my application? Or is it enough to show the proof of funds like we do for the single applicant? How much should we be showing as proof of funds? Please mention the set of documents I will need to include him. Also please guide regarding getting him a work permit through the same application.
Considering the fact that he is waiting for divorce papers from the court from his previous marriage, how soon can we marry so that the visa officer does not think it is a marriage out of convenience and what proofs do we need to show him to convince regarding the same?
Please suggest if there is anything else that we must consider.
Hoping someone would help with the info.
Thanks and Regards,
SD

Are you referring to if you need a job to sponsor him? If yes, then you don't necessarily need a job as there is no set income you need to be a sponsor, however, CIC does want to see that you will be able to support eachother, whether that be through parents helping you or through a job itself. You do need to send proof of income as one of the requirements for sponsorship approval. If you don't have an employment letter, then you will have to write a letter explaining why you cannot provide a letter of employment.Hi Michyy,
Thank you very much for your reply. Means a lot. We haven't lived together during the last year so the Common Law is ruled out for us. We will get married sometime after his divorce has been finalized and then apply. I am still trying to find inputs on if the job is a must for me or showing proof of funds will be sufficient.
Best Regards,

If you planned to get married before landing, you need to inform CIC and add him to your application. Your COPR will be invalid once you get married (COPR is issued when you are single). He will need to go through medical and criminal check...etc. (just like when you applied for PR)Hello Everyone,

Wow, thanks for the update. My spouse just submitted the application and we didn’t see the updated checklist. Is that gonna be an issue or they’ll ask for the PCC later?Hello Everyone,
Good to see folks who applied in January are receiving their AOR's, wishing everyone the very best. I am Planning on applying for my spouse during the first week in March this year, she currently resides in Pakistan while I am working in Canada and have a Permanent Resident Status.
My Question to the experts is: I am planning on visiting her for two weeks end of April/early May this year. Someone told me I should not leave Canada until I get a confirmation that I am approved in principle (Sponsorship eligibility) is that correct?
Also just so it may help anyone applying soon; the Document Checklist just got updated (February 2018) and apparently their are now asking for Police Certificates and the Declaration forms as part of the application package
We followed this exactly like you listed and it worked. Thanks a million! You can also try this:
Category: Permanent Residence
Subcategory: Family (Spouse)
Use UCI and Family Name
-> do not enter anything in the town/city of birth and Country (leave it blank)
Proceed to Passport Info:
- passport number
- country of issue
- issue and expiry date
Enter personal info:
- intended residence (province and city)
- current marital status
- number of applicants: put 2 (if there's only 1 PA and 1 sponsor)
Link. Hope it works! Just remember that all entries you put must match the entries you've written in your application as well.
Thank you so much! I successfully linked my application under PR but I'm having trouble with linking my OWP. Any tips?We followed this exactly like you listed and it worked. Thanks a million!
Hello YVR123,If you planned to get married before landing, you need to inform CIC and add him to your application. Your COPR will be invalid once you get married (COPR is issued when you are single). He will need to go through medical and criminal check...etc. (just like when you applied for PR)
This is assuming that you get your COPR via your own (not as a dependent of your parents).
Once everything is done, then CIC will issue new COPR for you and your then husband.
If you will land first, then get married. Then you can apply spousal sponsorship for him. You do not need a job but you need to show CIC how you planned to support yourself and your spouse in Canada. (savings, support from parents ..etc)
