I am a mature student and need to explain 14 year study gap. Is it advisable to send long SOP. or shall I make it short?
Thanks

I suggest limiting the length of the SoP to 2 pages. You can definitely explain your situation and talk about
1. Your motivation to study (program name) at (university name) in Canada
2. Your work experience, how that ties in with your choice to study in Canada and the opportunities that exist in your home country
3. Your financial and familial ties to your home country, justifying why you will return after the completion of your program.

I have a gap of 10 years between my Under-Graduation and my Post-Graduation, having worked for 9 years. I could explain my case in 1.5 pages

It does not matter if you write 100 pages or 0 pages. The visa officer is not going to read it anyway.

What do you mean not read it??? :( I want to qualify and hence i want to justify my study gap

you dont need 14 pages. rather, you should be writing a succinct SOP. I wouldn’t use the word ‘short’ because mine was about 3 pages as well and I got mine approved.

A succinct SOP gets to the point and doesn’t rely on fluff or emotional language to try and convince the VO, because that will not work.

I would say that whatever number of pages you feel would explain everything that you want to mention then go for it. Let the VO decide if they want to read it or not. A VO wouldn't ignore your SOP.

Cool . Thanks :) . Good answer :)

There is no perfect winning formula for getting a study permit, all is a trial and error as the entire process is subjective and in the hand of VO. If you would go with the 14 pages, ensure all key details are covered in the first 2 pages. Anything beyond you can leave it to the VO if he wants to dig further into your explanations. Whatever you do just ensure you don't over explain things.

Please don't. Don't put a 14 page SoP or LoE. It will be too hard to read and most likely will lead to a rejection because you cann't bore a VO in accepting your application.

My partner had a 9 year gap and all it took was two pages of explanation which also included few clarification on fields in the form and calculation of expenses. We got approval on first try. That said, our application was inland.

There is absolutely no need for anyone to write a 14 page SOP. When applying for a job you limit yourself to a few pages. There is no need to write your life story in such detail. Agree with others that I would try for 1-2 pages.

Do you really think the visa officer even reads the sop? No they don't. Sometimes it's all garbage writing, and every sop is just the same, copied from the same template, full of grammatical errors, false statements, lies, etc. They won't waste their time reading the same thing over and over again

It will just show you're very desperate and trying to hide the fact that you're using a study permit to get to Canada and not leave after your stay.

I don't comprehend how someone can explain and convince VO in 2 pages. It is only possible if the case is simple and straightforward and there is nothing to explain in detail. Not for someone who has a lot to explain and convince.

Okay. First of all, you are extremely negative.
Secondly, stop judging others...
