    I've been working in Canada on a closed work permit and want to take some time off, I'm thinking I would take a few classes and change my permit to a study permit, is there a minimum course load? I don't need to be able to work during this time. Thanks.

    Hi There, I have a 3 year work permit issued under NAFTA from the US. On the CIC website it states the following for who can apply for an open work permit: "You have a temporary resident permit valid for at least six months." Would this be an opportunity to apply for an open work permit?

    Understood - I was speaking to an colleague who indicated that he completed the process in 6 weeks, something about american applications being easier for CIC to process.     Hi there, I am a 3rd year mechanical engineering student in California looking to work in Canada for a couple months this summer. The SWAP.ca program offers that, but I was wondering how I could apply for an Open Employment Authorization on my own without this service, thanks for any help at all.
