    Visitor Extension Questions

Hi All, My wife is currently in Canada on a TRV and we submit her PR application back in June, 2020. Like many affected by the COVID delays we have not yet received AOR. Her status expires September 16, 2020 and we are in the process of submitting a visitor extension. I had a few questions...

    MSP question

The website says that "Eligibility for MSP coverage cannot be confirmed over the phone. Health Insurance BC can only determine a person’s eligibility after the person arrives in B.C. and their application for coverage and immigration documentation has been reviewed." Right next to that it says...

    MSP question

First they sent an approval letter in the mail, just said my wife qualified for coverage starting on XXX date. About a week later my wife received the health card with PH number in the mail as well. As far as I know all premiums were eliminated at the start of this year. We haven't paid...

    MSP question

You can apply for MSP as soon as you submit your sponsorship application provided you are the spouse of a PR or Citizen whom already receives MSP (I am not sure if common-law qualifies). You do not need a SIN#, you do not need AOR. Just the receipt that confirms you paid all your application...

Inland spousal sponsorship, health insurance options/pregnacy, biometrics for open work permit approval

You said you are from BC? If your husband is a Canadian citizen or PR with MSP you can be added to his plan provided you have a PR application in progress and you paid all the fees. All you need to do is send in the MSP form and the receipt from IRRC for the PR fees. I'll post the links to the...

Inland PR application sent -- status extension necessary?

I've read this previously but we didn't include flight tickets in our MSP application and it was approved. Regardless, if you have them or email itinerary of her flight to Canada it wouldn't hurt to include it. Still curious what would happen in the event a visa extension is rejected before...

Inland PR application sent -- status extension necessary?

From what I gather it's relativity new that they are allowing this. Previously I believed you needed AOR. Better yet, they are waiving the 3 month wait period due to COVID so your coverage will start as soon as you apply. At least it's one less thing you have to worry about!

Inland PR application sent -- status extension necessary?

My wife is in a similar situation and I am curious to hear the opinions. Our immigration lawyer says she has implied status due to the OWP application but like you, I read on this forum that people apply for an extension as a safety-net if their PR application is returned as incomplete for what...

MSP health coverage while waiting for Permanent Residency inland BC

It seems like a new policy but in BC, if you are the spouse of someone already on MSP, all you need is your reciept of payment for the PR application and right of permanent residence fee to be eligible for MSP. You do not need AOR. I can confirm this as my wife, whom is on a TRV, just recieved...

JUNE 2020 Applicants please join here

IRCC website has been updated to confirm the OWP extension. "As of December 22, 2014, open work permits may be issued under a pilot program to applicants who are in the spouse or common-law partner in Canada (SCLPC) class prior to first-stage approval. The pilot program has been extended until...

Open work permit for Spousal Sponsorship (Sending it in in July when the pilot program ends July 31)

Looks like the official website is updated now. "As of December 22, 2014, open work permits may be issued under a pilot program to applicants who are in the spouse or common-law partner in Canada (SCLPC) class prior to first-stage approval. The pilot program has been extended until the...

Open work permit for Spousal Sponsorship (Sending it in in July when the pilot program ends July 31)

CiC website still states "As of December 22, 2014, open work permits may be issued under a pilot program to applicants who are in the spouse or common-law partner in Canada (SCLPC) class. The duration of this pilot program has been extended to July 31, 2020. " It doesn't matter if the page was...

How much was your PR cost?

The Right of Permanent Residence Fee increased from $490 to $500 at the end of April. The new total for everything including OWP and biometrics is $1,390.

**** SPOUSAL APPLICATION: APPLICATION FEE ****

If you are concerned you can request a refund for the fees and then pay everything again separately to generate two receipts. I did that and the funds were refunded very quickly. Within a week if I recall.

Opening bank account RBC - Cohabitation/Relationship proofs

We opened a joint and personal account for my wife, whom has a TRV, at Coast Capital Savings. However, I do believe we got a little bit lucky. The teller confirmed that a SIN is not actually required to open an account but we didn't have the required ID. For visitors they accept a Visitor...

    Inland Sponsorship, covid, medical insurance

Has anyone with a TRV whoes applied inland been able to get MSP? The website is not quite clear (to me at least), if a PR applicant with a TRV is eligible. Based on the preceding, Canadian citizens and persons with permanent resident status in Canada are eligible to apply for benefits. In...

Apply for Visitor Record or wait for decision on OWP

I am still trying to wrap my head around this strategy as well. Does implied status from the OWP application begin as soon as it's mailed out, or do you need AOR on the application? I understand you will lose status if the application is returned, so how do you know when you are safe. I...

Visiting common-law partner with PR application being processed under new rules.

If you are not from a Visa exempt country you still need a valid TRV, which you would have to apply for separately ahead of time.

I am collecting letters from friends/family for my spousal sponsorship package - how does this template sound?

I agree with the above advice. Give your family/friends a list of things to include at a minimum but don't use a general template. Let the writer construct it how they want. You want the letters to be personalized and they will come across as more genuine. Our immigration lawyer also advised us...

    Inland Sponsorship Dilemma

Inland applications aren't only for people with visitor visas, in fact, I tend to think they are not really for people on visitor visas at all (although it's perfectly acceptable to do it that way). Applicant's can be here for a variety of reasons be it a work permit, student permit etc. For a...
