It is "okay" to send the copy of the scanned document to CIC, it will be accepted and processed. Meanwhile, you might want to ask your manager to mail you the original document to you in case if CIC asks for it in future.

A self affidavit is sufficient as well, its not mandatory that your father-in-law has to give it. I dont have a birth certificate and I gave a self affidavit and it was accepted. Good luck. -B

The photocopy is for the birth certificate and not for affidavit. so, in short, nothing will happen, CIC will process your application IF you submit the original affidavit.

If I understand it right, if you are sending in a notarized affidavit, it has to be sent in original.
