Tobi I am also here for my partner. I came here three and a half years ago on a working holiday with the intention of staying only one year. haha whoops. We decided to stay in Canada as he has only just started his own company which is doing really well and the job market in Calgary is way...

    Common-law and fast relationships

Absolutely there is such a thing as a common-law relationship of convenience. In fact it is probably more common as once you get PR you can effectively just walk away without the strings that a marriage brings. As other posters have mentioned, the importance is proving that you have combined...

Congratulations! That is fantastic, good luck with the landing process. If you get the chance and don't mind, I am sure there are a few of us on here that would appreciate knowing a little about the landing process when you flagpole from within Canada. There are a few of us waiting in Canada...

Chipits, I was told by the Dr both times I had a medical (had to for WP as well) that they are basically just looking for TB, HIV and STD's. Not sure why they care about STD's so much, but the blood and urine is testing STD and HIV and the x-ray is for chest abnormalities which signal TB. My Dr...

Congratulations on your anniversary! I think it depends on your question and the VO, but I have heard that Sydney is really good for responding regardless of what you ask so maybe just give it a go anyway. I know Sydney says 8 months, but I haven't heard of anyone taking anywhere near that long...

My approval letter also said that my file was transferred already, but I really doubt they send them one at a time as they are approved for stage one. In reality they probably wait until there are 10/50/100 applications going to the same VO or send them at the end of the month. Plus for VO's...

Hey Bagel, I also had to send an email to Sydney as I had one question which I wanted to clarify. They replied a few hours ago (I sent email last week) and said that my file was still in transit and my details would be added to my file when it arrived. So I think they probably do wait for a...

American coming to Canada: Times for Social Insurance Number?

When she comes to Canada with PR, she will take her passport and PR details to a Service Canada office and they will give her the SIN on the spot. The card is mailed later, usually within 2-3 weeks.

    5490 Questions 24 and 25

Exactly. They both give you space for an explanation so use it. I met my partner whilst in Canada on a working holiday and after almost four years I have still not left Canada, so I just explained that. The question is really set up for those that are not together seeing as it is outland forms...

rejection for student visa for US affecting application?

I also selected no for this question, but had a refused work permit extension for Canada in 2010 based on unsuccessful LMO. I interpreted the question the same way, thinking that I was not refused a refugee, PR, visitor or temp resident visa so I am not included in this. I wasn't refused entry...

UK Passport Will Expire in 2014 - Should I renew now?

Renew now for sure!!! I renewed mine with 18 months left on it, and starting a WP and PR application with a new passport was WAAAY easier than having to update half way through, or as soon as I received PR.

    Preparing for the BIG move

I am actually from New Zealand, so can't really help you there. I have no idea about banks in the US. I have never had to transfer money between countries as I kept the balance in NZ and am earning CAD here. I am sure others from the US will be able to help you out, and I know there are a few...

Hey chipits. In short: Yes, No, Yes/No. 1) A lot of people choose to do it this way as the processing times are much quicker. In fact, I haven't heard from anyone going through Sydney taking the inland route as by the time stage 1 inland is completed, you could have already received PR...

I am kinda undecided about Calgary. I love the career opportunities, being close to the Rockies, the hot summer and relatively mild winters (compared to Edmonton or Winnipeg, not compared to NZ!), and there is always a lot going on here. But I hate being so far from the ocean or a decent...
