I would advise you to apply for the BOWP, this will grant you the implied status after your current PGWP expires. And, yes, biometrics collection is required for BOWP as well.

I just got an email cancelling my Biometrics appointment in London, Ontario. The processing will be affected for sure. They say we now have 90 days to give the biometrics, but I'm not sure how this will reflect in my application processing time.
