How did you guys get along with separating from parents?

Good thing there's Skype. When my father was doing his PhD in the US some years back, there was no easy/cheap way to get in contact with family.

that was harsh, I need your support

Didn't have a problem with that part of your statement. However, do you honestly believe that "Canada today, economy wise, is not much different from many third world countries". This is your statement. I see the poor in the developed countries and I compare it to the poor in my home country...

that was harsh, I need your support

You're right. It is more diverse, but it's due to family immigration and the green card lottery. However, the immigrants that are skilled aren't as diverse (mostly Chinese and Indian). In essence, Canada gets (on average) a higher skilled immigrant.

that was harsh, I need your support

Of American immigrants that are in the "skilled" streams (i.e. Employment Based), it is mostly Chinese and Indians. This is why the green card quota from these two countries are constantly backlogged. For the family based streams, the immigrants are mostly of Latin American descent. Since...

Landing in Calgary.. Good idea right now?

This is good advice, especially if you already have a good paying job in your home country (or country of residence). I'm planning to land whenever I get my passport back, but I won't make the move permanently unless: * I find a job in Canada * I get laid off from my current job.

    unfortunate but true

I'm not doubting anyone's experiences here, but I know of only one friend in Canada. He's a successful IT professional in Calgary. He's from the subcontinent, and he did not have to go to university in Canada (although he did complete his Masters in North America).

that was harsh, I need your support

Isn't it kind of hypocritical to make this statement when you make a dig at Canada any chance you get? To quote a wise fellow: ETA: For what it's worth, I value your opinions of Canada.

that was harsh, I need your support

One of the most ridiculous statements I've heard here. Come to a real 3rd world country before making such idiotic statements.

Landing in Calgary.. Good idea right now?

A good portion of Alberta's economy is the oil/energy sector. Global oil prices have been taking a beating lately, and any company associated with the oil industry has also taken a beating. This is happening in many places (not just Canada). Many US based oil companies are also laying people off.

I did not have a French diploma. In fact, technically, I think I didn't even get any points for French language due to the rule changes. Fortunately, I regained the points that I lost (6 points) when they bumped my AOT from 6 to 12 (Computer Engineering). Perhaps, this change put me in a...

Is it really the law in Canada? I think it's just professional courtesy in North America (I'm US based) and to avoid burning bridges for the future. There's a chance that you may need references in the future, and not turning in two weeks is poor form. When I changed jobs and turned in my two...
