I THINK MY VISA OFFICER IS OUT TO GET ME ,,

I had an all-too-brief look through your posts here over the past year and a half .. brutal! I admire your tenacity and wish you all the best with whatever you do next. I can't blame you for your uncharitable opinion. Russia's young people seem at times to be the country's #2 export.

I THINK MY VISA OFFICER IS OUT TO GET ME ,,

I agree that the western media thrive on unfounded hysteria. I've been in constant contact with friends in Tokyo (I left at the end of December) since the quake and ensuing nuclear reactor incident, and they've been reporting things that make it clear that the western media are way off base...

    Remember to vote for liberals

I plan to vote Green. Perhaps I'm a sucker for lost causes* but it seems to me that there's at least a voice that can look past next week. I think the current minority government does a good job because it's kept in balance. And let's not kid ourselves about the Conservatives being conservative...

    Remember to vote for liberals

I came to the realization the other day that standing still this past decade at least in income vs expenses would have been a huge plus. My salary's the same as it was ten years ago but the price of gold for instance has gone up over three times from $CA400 to $CA1500 during the same period. As...

Can you move out of Canada after you get your PR and still keep it?

It's true that we can't really make any assumptions about the economics in any of this. Also it's worth pointing out that a doctor has no incentive to turn away business in this or any country.... P.S. I'll add that this must be the only discussion thread in the entire Internet that contains...

Can you move out of Canada after you get your PR and still keep it?

That's pretty discouraging. What are they doing for the six months of the year that they're in Canada? Working? Maybe the minimum "Canada time" should be bumped up to ten months.

    obtaining PR card in Toronto

Thanks for that, Scylla. I had determined that there must be some way of doing so within Toronto, but a look through the CIC website revealed nothing. You'd think that Service Canada locales would manage this? They say so on their site, but then reference the CIC call centre...

    obtaining PR card in Toronto

Once we've gotten a PR visa for my wife, what's the best route to picking up the PR card from Toronto? Is "flagpoling" down in Niagara still required or is it possible to get this done perhaps at immigration at Pearson? (PS, I'm sure this has been answered a thousand times but I can't put in a...

    new born Baby's PR

Given that the only sort of private health insurance in Ontario seems to be strictly for emergency use (e.g. blue cross), and that those private systems are invariably claim-based, I'd be hesitant about bringing an infant to Ontario without health coverage (personal opinion). Here is the list of...

Can you move out of Canada after you get your PR and still keep it?

I was gone for five years, but I've heard it now from enough parties that I expect that CRA will start paying closer attention to me. I've alerted them to the fact that I'm back, and checked that they don't think I owe them any returns.

    new born Baby's PR

What a mess! And all the while, in Canada, no health insurance?

Can you move out of Canada after you get your PR and still keep it?

How about a child! 8^P But seriously, I think your fear is well founded. I still can't get over how I was jerked around by the Customs people in trying to bring our possessions to Canada! In the end it seems that it was all down to one agent's snap decision. That decision was later overturned...

    Eloping in Canada?

Glad we could help. Mmm, whale bacon. Don't care as much for the soft/fatty sushi type. Now baniku is a dish I'm up for any time!

I THINK MY VISA OFFICER IS OUT TO GET ME ,,

Good post! I wonder if quite apart from the issue of fraud there are issues with lax regional/national attitudes towards regulations that makes every application more likely to be hard to gauge. Most Japanese seem to be natural born bureuacrats, for instance....

    new born Baby's PR

I did notice that this was an old thread before responding, but I did learn one item that might help future parents understand health coverage for children. We arrived in early January. In preparation for the three month waiting period to expire, I submitted applications for OHIP (Ontario...

    Eloping in Canada?

It's an interesting point. The forms ask you to state clearly your group affiliations. A quick google search didn't turn up anything on this issue, but it's worth a phone call into the CIC call centre by the sponsor, I'd say. Better find out sooner than later.

    Eloping in Canada?

Congratulations!! Yes, the forms ask for all kinds of proof of how the relationship formed and who attended what formal ceremony. Elope, but do your application a favour (to say nothing of doing your families a favour) and host some sort of party afterward with both familes in attendance. Or...

    How did you meet?

I feel old-fashioned, too. We met at the office, she was in HR and I was in IT. I'd taken a six week assignment in Tokyo because no one else in our office in Toronto could be bothered going back to Tokyo yet again. They were all married and had kids, whereas I-despite being in my...

    Eloping in Canada?

    1. As others have pointed out, just get a marriage license in either location. 2. Yes. There is no mechanism for registering an out of provice marriage in a Canadian province. 3. You do as we've all done and submit an "outland" permanent residence application with you as the applicant and your...
