    Vancouver - Coquitlam

Hi All, Has anyone got any thoughts on the Coquitlam area of Vancouver? 1. I have 2 children (aged 2 and 4) who will need to go to school and we'd like to be in a catchment area for the better schools if possible 2. I'll be working in downtown Vancouver and would like to be within walking...

    Tax Question

Good morning all, Question regarding tax. I am 'landing' in Canada on the 12th September but only staying for a 2 week vacation. Once I have things sorted out in Hong Kong and a job in Vancouver I'll relocate. Does anyone know if I am liable for tax in Canada on my HK earnings? Thank in advance

    Working in vancouver

I guess it really depends on what the OP is trained to do or wants to do. I know it can be a bit of a let down when you move to the land of 'opportunity' and find that the skills you had at home are in abundance and/or your training and qualifications aren't recognised. Nothing worse than...

    Working in vancouver

What are you qualified to do? What did you do in your home country before relocating. Don't mean to be rude, but do you really not know what is meant by local supermarket or a job centre?

I can't get a POLICE CHECK from China! What do I do??

I think the OP's man problem isn't necessarily finding a representative in the PRC to make the application on her behalf. I think it may be more that as he/she didn't register with the local police station (which I think is still required of foreigners spending a certain period of time in PRC)...

    Help with visa options

Good advice, let me know it goes. I still believe it's worth getting the evidence together as you've been married for less than 2 years. Just a question though for scylla though, what makes you so confident on the advise you're giving?

    Help with visa options

Wow that is a complicated situation, best advice is to go back in time and start again. Honestly speaking and this is just a personal viewpoint, I would suggest forking out some money for some professional advice. This forum is great for the straightforward case or easy questions but your case...

    COPR Waiting Time

Spoke to the CBSA yesterday evening and spoke to them about my options and they've let me know what I can and can't do so I'm sorted now. We worked that as I don't really know what I'll be travelling with at a later date I just go in this time and declare minimum goods and possessions and when...

Foreign wife transferring money to Canada after husband arrives 4 months earlier

Haha, yes you're right buying in Hong Kong is expensive but that still doesn't mean I'd be happy to pay tax in Canada for a property I've sold here before moving there (that's if I do sell it)

In that case I think your process is going to be a lot simpler than mine. I've got a whole household to ship over

    COPR Waiting Time

From what I've heard it's a bit more complicated than that. Are you shipping goods over of just going with what you're travelling with?

Foreign wife transferring money to Canada after husband arrives 4 months earlier

Fair enough, I didn't know they could tax it like that. I might have to look into it myself. I'm moving from Hong Kong and we have so little tax obligations here and beginning to wonder why i'm going from a place that doesn't seem to want to tax anything to a country where every aspect is taxed...

Foreign wife transferring money to Canada after husband arrives 4 months earlier

If she's going to settle in Canada rather than arriving a tourist (with or without a visa, there will be some form of time constraint on how long she can spend there) she will need to apply for Permanent Residency. Have a look at the CIC website, sounds like to me that you'll probably opt for...
