We got Canadian bank accounts. Yay!. After the Scotiabank scare, the remaining banks we talked to were straight forward. No problem with using a US mailing address. We first got a TD bank account. They have a newcomers package, which waives fees for 6 months. We also got no-fee unsecured...

Hope you get your ppr soon. I see the US administration has now announced that having a H1B no longer counts as a positive during renewal. They will scrutinize it just as a new application. Another level of uncertainty for a bunch of folks.

I have not used any yet since I first need to have a Canadian bank account :D. Transferwise is the most famous one. I plan to google and find other ones once I get CA accounts and such done. They are supposed to give good rates since they match individuals wishing to do transfer in both...

We were not planning to open a savings account, just checking. There are internet only banks here (like we have Capitalone360 & Ally in the US) who I am sure give a decent interest rate like their US counterparts. You can open the internet ones online, however I think you probably need a...

Well our Canada adventure continues. We got our SIN from Service Canada in Charlottetown, PEI. It was painless as numerous post on the forum had previously indicated. Banks however are proving to be a bit more complicated. Unlike US banks, you cannot just walk into a bank to open a account, you...

We did our landing today at Toronto. Everything was uncomplicated and smooth. The immigration lady had my kid help stamp his passport :). The customs dude was very friendly and we just ended up talking about soccer teams and such. Staying in a hotel tonight before flying out to PEI. We are PNP...

Not a tax lawyer so below is my layman's understanding. Don't do your planning solely based on my explanations. Its complicated. The tax treaty does help though. Just after landing, first step would be to see if you are considered a Canadian resident for that tax year. Unfortunately there is no...

Due to your NOC (IT related) when Ontario opens up they might send you a notification that they are interested in your EE account. For the rest basically you need to visit each Provinces PNP website regularly (say everyday) to see if something opens up. NB has info sessions from time to time...

Working for US employer under the Federal Skilled Worker program?

It does not matter who you work for. You have to just meet residency obligations for maintaining PR and getting Citizenship.

W.r.t lawyer question. A lawyer does not help your chances of PNP nominations if that is what you are trying to figure out. A good lawyer could help you avoid silly mistake. The flip side is a bad lawyer will make silly mistakes. I went the DIY route for my application.

I have never been to PEI. The only time I have spent in Canada is in Toronto. As a older applicant my CRS score would realistically never hit the level to get a ITA. The other PNPs were not open to me except maybe Saskatchewan, and I was not interested in Saskatchewan. In 2016 PEI must have...

My family and me will be landing during Thanksgiving week. We are PEI PNP nominees so we will then go to PEI to check out the province and figure out long term settlement plans. The process took a long time, so am really excited to get to this stage. All the best for the rest of you folks too.

    Singapore COC / PCC

That is not what happened for my wife and me. She came to Singapore under her tourist visa for months before she decided to stay and got a EP. For me the non-NRIC period was shorter basically between me renouncing my Singapore PR and hence going on tourist visa and the date I left Singapore...

    Singapore COC / PCC

Yes. For folks not in Singapore, you need to do a appeal initially where you mention you period of stay. In that appeal put in your total stay. They will print that period on the COC. If you are currently in Singapore then no idea.

:) As long as you are from a visa exempt county that will hold true.
