For the questions from CIC, I think she should answer "yes" - thing is, you have the option to provide CIC with a letter of explanation in addition to your other documents. I think you should do that and explain the situation (that she works, that you have a PGWP, etc...). For my husband, he...

Applicant from PhD program after 5 Nov, 2011 connect here to get status

Most likely. I know it's extremely frustrating... We pretty much provided the exact same things (copy of both of our VISAs, letter of employment if applicable) just with my husband as the main applicant for his extension, and it was done really fast.

Yes, I mean your PGWP. As a sidenote, I wonder if the PGWP is not considered a "student visa" as well because when my husband got his extension, it was indicated "spouse on a student visa until same date" (and I'm on a PGWP).

I hope I can help you with this, as the exact same thing happened to us: I graduated and applied for the PGWP; at the same time we asked for an extension of my husband's work permit (he had been working full time). Under MY name, his extension was refused because I did not have a work contract...

thanks for your reply! My goal is not to speed up the process but to send a complete application - I was just wondering if it was okay not to send criminal records initially, and wait a little before providing them so that we don't have to do it twice during the processing time. Any ideas on that?

Question about security documents: does everyone provide background checks when sending their application, or do some people wait a few months to know that their file is being processed to send them? Thanks a lot!

I wonder about this too, especially since the checklist stipulates "stamped with the company official seal IF APPLICABLE" - lots of companies do not use a seal.

I'd say best to avoid it; as a full-time student, you only need to study for 15 hours per week; depending on at what stage you're at in your PhD, you can easily claim 30 hours per week as an RA, and that would likely add up to one year of continuous full-time equivalent employment. Best of luck!

A quote of the comment I put under the web article, and please, Tyrus, give your 2 cents on that one: Letters of employment come from institutions: to not get rejected based on these letters, an applicant would have to write the letter himself/herself and have it signed by the institution. This...

Applicant from PhD program after 5 Nov, 2011 connect here to get status

I agree. My case is different because I had selected the wrong NOC code, but had I selected the right one, I would still have been rejected based on the letter. The "word for word" thing from the NOC description makes little sense (lead statement and blah blah blah). I think it'd be worth...
