    Common law and Married

There is a fantastic program on CBC radio right now describing some of the differences between Common Law and Marriage. I missed most of it, but may look it up online to hear more - it was on the Sunday Edition on CBC 1. I think they were just trying to highlight the fact that people in Common...

    IMM 5406 Addintional family information

We're having the same problem with my husband's family - he has many brothers and sisters he's never even met, so doesn't know their birthdays let alone addresses or birthplaces... Same goes with his parents as he didn't really grow up with them either and both are deceased (so don't know date...

Do the photos for the medical examination have to be immigration sized?

When i asked the same question to CIC there answer was 'if there are no specifications for the pictures, then you can bring anything. When they need documents conform to a standard it will be clearly laid out'. (paraphrased). My husband hasn't gone for the medicals yet, and won't be until...

I haven't been through the process, but have done a lot of investigations.... this link will take you to the instructions the DMP is supposed to follow: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/dmp-handbook/appendix-02.asp If you continue to the subsequent appendices you can see...

Filling out forms - print & pen or fillable pdfs?

There are software programs other than Adobe for reading PDF files. I use Foxit Reader, http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader/addons.php It's free and let's you save your input. Super useful since you can save your entries as you go.

How much documentation did you provide? How much is too much?

Thanks for all the input - and that reference to the other thread with pictures of people's applications is great - i'll put mine up whenever I get it all together... I have a few short video clips that would be great evidence. How should I include them? (Since they say not to included CDs or...

No DMP nearby - what to do?

More to update... The response from the Sydney office seems to say that the application can be submitted without the medical exams, and that once they receive it they will send him a special form for the medicals that can then be taken to any doctor! Things keep getting simpler! (And cheaper...

    Non-biological Daughter and multiple birth-certificates!?

Thanks! I did ask today - somewhat anonymously. They essentially said the same thing - they couldn't say whether DNA testing would be done - as that apparently depends on the visa office for the region, but that if the name on a birth certificate is sufficient to prove fatherhood in his home...

How many people have interviews? (Spousal sponsorship)

yep, no, yep, yep and yep, so I'll be budgeting for a trip to Sydney - confusing family history on his side where there will probably be large gaps and such - no large age difference - different cultures - small wedding - children with an ex on his side (but never married / common law) I'll...

No DMP nearby - what to do?

There may be hope yet !!! I just spoke to the Canadian Visa office and they suggested that I should be able to find a doctor in my husband's country who can be qualified as a DMP.... need to contact the Sydney office to get details and requirements. Here's hoping it works :) I'll fill you in...

How many people have interviews? (Spousal sponsorship)

Can I just get a tally started - have you had an interview - inland / outland, and what visa office? Also - anything in your application that you think led to the request for an interview? We haven't sent the application in, and since an interview will probably involve a minimum $1500 in travel...

    Any Polynesians?

Any others from the south pacific? I'm not, but my hubby is, and i'd love to hear from people coming from or sponsoring someone from the same 'area'. Or from any country where the nearest Visa Office is > 4000 kms away, and the nearest Canadian High Commision / embassy is > 2500 kms away...

How much documentation did you provide? How much is too much?

Is there such a thing as too much documentation? I started printing off email records and phone card receipts and txt message logs last night and found i already have a stack of papers 2 inches high. It reminded me of a previous experience I had with the US immigration: My dad is American...

    Non-biological Daughter and multiple birth-certificates!?

I'm sponsoring my husband from Samoa. He has three children from a previous relationship and we are really hoping to get their medicals done so that if they ever want to, or need to come live with us, they can. The issue is, one of his daughter's is not his biological daughter, but he was...

No DMP nearby - what to do?

Thanks to both! I've got a giant list of questions I'll address to CIC tomorrow and follow up with a call to some DMPs in NZ and the Sydney office (that's where his application will go). Worst part is that my husband just left Canada, and if we had been on top of things a little more we would...
