Name change from maiden to married

I did a legal name change after I did the medicals (in fact, even after I received the PPR.) It was much less of a big deal than I thought it would be. Name change took like 4 weeks to get certified from the court and US State Dept. got me a new passport in 4 days (wow!) -- they won't amend...

Question about travel to Canada while PR application is pending (awaiting AOR an

You are allowed -- and even encouraged -- to visit Canada while your application is being processed. I came to Canada every two weeks during the two years it took to process my application. I don't know your nationality, but if you're American, there are really not going to be any problems...

    immigration to quebec

Well, it says you need a CAQ for studies (meaning that Quebec issued you a student visa approval.) Since you're actually studying in Ontario, I would guess that you never applied for/received a CAQ, so I would imagine you're not eligible. Further, if Quebec granted you a CAQ for permanent...

Working experience + funding proof questions

The work experience is total. On the bank statement, I assumed it is the one you have closest to the date you apply. I went through the Quebec process, so I was only asked for a bank statement once (before landing) and brought a letter from my bank upon landing, but reading other posts, it...

    Last name spelling

Realizing that this question was asked two years ago, I'm posting only in case someone else has this question. I had a similar quandry. My last name is French in origin but had been anglicized over time (the ending had been changed from "ieu" to "ew". I had been told by several people in...

can I submit application without Police Clearance

Yes, you can. I actually asked the Consulate about this issue directly and the response was to file the application and forward the police clearance when it is available. In fact, you can write on the envelope you send to the FBI that it is an expedited request and you will get it much sooner.

    Quebec Immigration interview

I had my interview last June in New York. First of all, the interview was conducted in French. He began in French and I actually told him (in French) that although I spoke French that I would feel more comfortable in English since it's my maternal language and the interview was important to...

    Using two passports at Heathrow

I know that a lot of countries have a requirement that if you're a citizen, you enter under your passport (of that country.) The US, for one, insists upon it. So, I don't think you have a problem here. Enter each country on the passport of that country -- no need (and in fact not advisable)...

    Immigration to Quebec

If you go through the Quebec process, you'll be dealing with the government of Quebec first: http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/biq/damascus/index.asp As CSQ is a Selection Certificate for Quebec -- Quebec alone has the right to select which immigrants it wants to come to Quebec...

Australian Chartered Accountant moving to Montreal

Smithy: I fell in love with Montreal too. I understand. I don't know if I have advice about your particular situation, but I'll offer you everything I know and hope it helps you somewhat. I work for a Big 4 Accounting firm as well. So... 1) The Quebec process is maybe a little faster than...

    my wife is american national

Unfortunately, you don't get any special rights/treatment for being married to an American and you get very few for being an American. The only provision for Americans is the NAFTA treaty which covers a fairly narrow band of professions -- more information here...

Gay out of status in the US immigrating to Canada as a partner of skilled worker

I can sympathize as I'm in a somewhat similar situation. I'm no expert at this, but have you considered moving to Europe with your American partner? I'm pretty sure the UK, for one, will allow you, as a Polish citizen, to live and work there and sponsor your American partner. As I say, I'm no...

Is there ANY advantages of being a citizen of the USA to move to Canada?

The one major benefit to being an American is that a potential employer would not need to get a Labour Market Opinion to hire you if you worked in one of the NAFTA-covered professions: http://www.amcits.com/nafta_professions.asp This means if you work in one of these professions, and have the...

Plz help me decide b/w Federal and Quebec

Some people disagree with me, but I would say do the Quebec process only if your destination is going to be Quebec. The perceived difference in time between the two processes is not always the case (in my case, the Quebec process is turning out to be just as long as the federal process.)...

How Many American Citizens Moving to Canada?

You can count me in that number too. The reasons are myriad, but basically it comes down to that I don't feel like the US is the kind of country I want to live in, despite the fact that I was born and spent my entire life there.

    Please HELP-quebec skilled worker CSQ

I can offer you my thoughts and impressions, based on my experience (received a CSQ in June.) 1. The Quebec process is slightly different and geared toward Quebec. The best way to see if you'd qualify under the Quebec process is to user their form, which lets you add up the points you'd...
