Also, 6 months would be more realistic as you are applying for Common-Law sponsorship. They may scrutinize your application a bit more as oppose to a Spousal sponsorship. Some of the Spousals have been getting COPR in under 3 months but if you've got everything in order, it should be fine.

You most certainly can apply Outland and still reside inside Canada, I was the entire process. Outland is FAR better than Inland. It's on average 6 months from the date you send the application to receiving COPR. Inland could take up to 18 months-2 years, you also HAVE to stay inside Canada...

Don't feel stupid, they really word a lot of things badly in a lot of the Immigration Applications and questions. What they should say is buy 2 envelopes and put one inside with your name and address on it, along with your paperwork and photos.
