I would suggest that you try calling CIC helpline from within Canada to inquire. If a date has been assigned to you, they might be able to provide you with the details like the date of interview. The call centre folks have been nice to me whenever I have called them. I believe an MP inquiry...

In my opinion, the safe answer would be stating the law. Inform that you (technically your sponsor) will make an appeal to IAD (Immigration Appeal Immigration) of the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB).
