Is calling CIC and inquire about your PP help things go faster?

Do you know the number we can call from the U.S? On their website, it says 1-888-242-2100 is for in Canada calls only.

I received AOR on May 8th. Don't know what IP1, NA, IP2 mean exactly. I received PPR email on Tuesday (7/25)

My PPR email directly sent to my email address but I have no changes at all in my account. CIC have contacted me through my account so far, so I am concerned that the email is spam. It has all my info but I want to make sure if it is common to receive direct emails from CIC.
