    US outland applicants' thread :)

Just sent our package out today via Purolator, just making the 5pm deadline. It should be at CPC-Mississauga by Monday, July 9 at 10:30am -- all 7 lbs of it! I am the sponsor and the principal applicant is my American husband, so for the 2nd stage I think it's going to CPC-Ottawa now that...

    Employment in Canada

Things are not that bad here. My husband is still in the US, where things are worse but slowly improving (or so it seems). Times are not flush as they were before the global financial crisis, but I would not say they are dire at this point. Could that change? We'll see. And yeah, you may...

No, he hasn't received it yet (as of June 12th). He's in CA, but I was expecting it to take another week or two after the card was charged before he actually received his police certificate.

So my husband's credit card was charged today by the FBI .. hopefully that means it won't be much longer. (And hopefully they're readable!) They were received by the FBI on May 21st.

Translation of emails, messages, letters, keepsakes...and photos

To answer your first question -- I don't think you need to translate a year's worth of chat logs, but realistically, if your correspondence is not in English or French, I wouldn't expect that the VO would translate it themselves. If you send something that is mostly English (say 90%+) , and it...

I also want to say thanks to OhCanadiana for putting this all together -- it's very useful information. We haven't filed our application yet, but will be doing so soon. I appreciate your hard work compiling everything!

Working under the table.. what are the real risks?

I don't think anyone can give you hard statistical odds of how likely it is that you could be caught. There are too many factors involved -- and judging by the stories of other users, yes, the government could be watching -- it's a gamble you take. If she is being paid in cash only and...

Buffalo Visa office closing - Canadian Government

15k per semester just to be a student? Wow, that's crazy. And Americans come to Canada because post-secondary is cheaper here (even with international student fees) than in the U.S. -- at least that was my experience in the program I took.

Buffalo Visa office closing - Canadian Government

Although we don't yet know what will happen with the processing times, I imagine it's going to take longer now (although I'm trying to remain positive). I can't bear the thought of being separated from my husband for longer than one more year. I'm thinking of what options we would have: 1. He...

    Thread for outland Buffalo applicants!

I can't fault your logic on this one, but it makes me want to cry to think that this is a distinct possibility .. I had prepared myself for the process to take a year, but if it doubles the processing times .. I don't know what we'll do.

I would mail them both in, just to be safe? It sounds like a number of people have had issues with their prints not being 'readable.'

Sponsoring US Husband - Question about Document Checklist - Sponsor

I've been reading conflicting reports about using an FBI channeler and whether CIC will accept the results from a channeler. Would you go through a channeler and send off the results with the application package and then forward the actual FBI police certificate when it arrives? It's hard to...
