Transit Visa - Delhi to Toronto via Frankfurt

Hi Guys, Sorry to be asking this question, but I was getting mixed responses over the web, the VFS etc. The query: If a person holds a valid Canadian Visitor visa, and is planning to visit Canada this month for a few weeks, does that person require a transit Visa for Frankfurt. The itinerary is...

To claim or not to claim your non-resident spouse on your Canadian tax return

Rob, I have seen your posts and you have been very helpful. We were just finishing my wife's taxes and submitting them through TaxTurbo. For her its pretty simple. Landed in Feb, returned a week later with a SIN and that's all. So did I. She returned in August and started working. For Aug to...

Tax concern - Am I a partial resident?

Yes, I did mention that. Explicitly mentioned primary ties, and then secondary ties. That's when the "overthinking" comment came from. My wife is filling her taxes for 2017, for the first time here. In-fact, I am her dependent rather than the other way around, now that I am unemployed. I wanted...

Tax concern - Am I a partial resident?

Updating this thread for the benefit of others: I have started living in Toronto since the 20th Jan 2018. I called up the CRA for some questions, and at the same time, queried about the questions I had in August, that I put forward here. As per the response, and this is what the lady said...

    Canada Child Benefits

ok, so when will that global income start from? because in this case we became residents of Canada for "tax purposes" when we established "significant ties" with Canada, which is from August. Hence, what is the amount needed to be entered. Also, as far as income tax goes, does the 183 day rule...

    Canada Child Benefits

Hi, I have a situation which I need your help in. My wife, daughter and I landed in Canada in February and became PRs. We left Canada a week later. My wife got a job, and returned to Canada permanently while I am still staying behind, as I have work commitments to my current employer. Question...

    ***Ontario Driving License***

Hi Rossei, I have two licenses as I am a citizen of 1 country but a resident of another, and now, a Canadian PR who has done a soft landing, but will be moving early next year. I hold an Indian license since 2003, where I have extensive driving and riding experience of many years, and a...

Tax concern - Am I a partial resident?

Ok, sure, will do that. There is treaty to avoid double taxation between Canada & Singapore. I would not have bothered with all this, if there hadn't have been a drastic difference between tax rates in Singapore vs Canada.

Tax concern - Am I a partial resident?

Thanks for your inputs. When should I hire an accountant? I presume next year before filling in my 2017 return

    Taxation for new immigrants

Yes, there is a treaty. But then again, the tax in Singapore is quite lower than canada, and the $ is about the same exchange rate. Moreover, I presume that the world income I declare to CRA would only be from when I became a resident for tax purposes i.e. august. Is there a minimum amount...

New immigrant subject to Canadian taxes on world-income?

What if the family is self sufficient i.e. my wife is working and will pay taxes. She is a PR and supports my daughter. I am a PR but only have my name on the lease (in addition to my wife) and no other ties and I work and pay Significant taxes outside canada. Do I still have to pay taxes?

Tax concern - Am I a partial resident?

So, technically I should be in a better position than your friend right? Because my wife will be the one receiving the payment for my child, even though both parents have to provide their SINs. Also, she is employed, so I don't support them, so that helps? Any other suggestion, on what I can do...

    Taxation for new immigrants

Yes, but will she be my dependent or my wife's, as she lives with her in Toronto, and is provided for wholly by her? No child care benefits have been taken as yet, moreover, we have been told that we cannot/should not apply for the child care benefits since February, as we were not living there...
