    Passports Stamps

Arrival stamps are in blue, and departures in red. Not sure if that is a global standard, which the reviewing officer will accept.

NRI deposits in India and canadian tax

You will be considered a tax resident of Canada only when you physically move to Canada. Once you become a tax resident of Canada, you are taxed on global income, including on investments sitting in Singapore and India. This includes NRE interest, which is tax-free in India, but taxable in...

Multiple Entries into Canada (Parents on V-1 Visitor Visa)

Thanks for your reply. Does that mean immigration officers could ask my parents to explain their travel plans, show their travel itinerary, etc.? Or are their circumstances when they could be denied entry?

Selling undeclared property and bringing money to Canada

CRA's definition of being a tax resident is completely different from being a PR under immigration law. You are a tax resident, since you worked in Canada, and filed tax returns. As a Canadian tax resident, you are taxable on your global income (even if you are not a PR). However, there is no...

Multiple Entries into Canada (Parents on V-1 Visitor Visa)

Hello, My parents are Indian passport holders, with multiple entry visitor visas from both Canada and the US. They are visiting me (in Toronto) and my sister (in Chicago) this summer, and will go back and forth: 1. India - Toronto flight 2. Few days later, Toronto - Chicago flight 3. Couple of...

Traveling on unexpired PR card while renewal is being processed

Interesting... which places, and does it seem security related? I used to work in the Middle East before we immigrated, but have not been back in the Middle East since then. My travel is mostly to the US, India, and Western Europe.

    Police Certificates for Citizenship Application

Thank you for the clear responses. Getting police certificates from Qatar (where we last lived before immigrating) is a hassle I'm keen to avoid! Does CIC care if I spent (say) 180 days there, i.e. close to the threshold of 183 days but numerically lower? Could that trigger secondary reviews, etc?

    Police Certificates for Citizenship Application

My question concerns this requirement "Within the last 4 years, if you spent 183 days or more in another country (other than Canada), you must provide a police certificate." Hypothetically, if my citizenship application is dated March 2018, should I consider each prior year as March to March...

Traveling on unexpired PR card while renewal is being processed

Thank you, PMM. Does sufficient proof of RO mean passport pages showing exit stamps? I don't have entry stamps on the passport, since we re-enter using the PR card rather than passport. Also, is there a margin of safety beyond 730 days (say 2-3 months) where the chances of secondary review drop?

Traveling on unexpired PR card while renewal is being processed

I'm a PR, and meet the residence obligation of 730 days. I travel outside Canada frequently on work as well as vacation, but my total absence is usually less than 2 months in a year. Being able to travel at short notice is extremely important for me, so I plan to apply for PR card renewal 9 full...

Please suggest a good elementary school in Toronto

Hello, do you know of any Toronto specific online parent groups / forums? We will likely be living in midtown, and are looking for specific insights into the elementary schools there. Things like academic rigor, parent engagement, breadth of after-school programs, etc. Thanks very much.

Tax residency status in first year

Hello, my family and I became PRs last year. We plan to move permanently to Canada in late July this year, so I will be physically present in Canada LESS than 183 days. When filing 2016 returns, will I be considered a tax resident of Canada? Specifically: 1. For 2016, will I be taxed on...

FSW 2014 HONG KONG VISA OFFICE

Hi Future Canadian, I landed in Canada in July, applied for my PR card, and left after a couple of weeks. The PR card was delivered to my friend's address in Canada a few days back. I will now be re-entering from the US later this week, in a private vehicle with just my COPR. Is it necessary...
