"I got my n'th line update today" Can someone please explain what the line updates are? I assume it's the CIC system once you get your UCI? Thanks!

Not yet :( I was Sep 3 application, CCC Nov 23rd, same NOC - no PER yet. I'm really hoping for today or tomorrow! Good luck!

I don't think it's really fair to use Oregon as an example since it's one of the few states that doesn't have a sales tax. If you see my previous post, I showed a detailed calculated example that showed at $80,000 the US citizen ends up with less money after tax. This is based on publicly...

Re: Success chances on FSW programmes I'm totally guessing here, but most people who get a PER will ultimately get a VISA. The only issue is if they fail criminal checks or potentially the medical. So I would estimate it's more like this. Remember, when they ask for the passport you are...

Depends on the state and province you are comparing. But if you look at this US tax calculator, you will see that someone earning $80,000 a year in the United States only takes home $60,521 a year after taxes. http://us.thetaxcalculator.net/ In Canada (I used BC as an example), that person...

    For example, here is the fees in BC based on income: http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/msp/infoben/premium.html Income Cost/month $0 - $22,000 $0 $22,001 - $24,000 $12.80 (one person), $23.20 (family of two) $24,001 - $26,000 $25.60 (one person), $46.40...

It depends on the province. In Ontario it's part of your provincial taxes, so you don't even notice it. Yes, by 'free' I meant you don't explicitly pay for it in most provinces, but or course it comes out of taxes. In British Columbia you will pay for medical as a percentage of your income...

I talk a lot about small businesses (which is tyipically any business that makes less than $500,000 a year in *profit* - so they could make millions of dollars, but it's only the profit we are talking about) because that is what you will encounter most in Canada: "Small businesses make up 98.2...

There are a lot of hidden taxes in the states, such as FICA, which can be as much as 6% of your gross. None of that factors in health care too, which is free (or almost free) for most Canadians, and often amounts to $4000-$5000 per year per person in the United States.

    1. I disagree with this. I know lots of small business owners in Canada and they are all open minded when it comes to hiring. Most of them are overworked and they would love nothing more than to have someone help with the business. But it's up to you to sell yourself and prove that you can do...

Many services allow for delivery in 24 hours if you pay the highest tier - I would definitely recommend that. It is the holidays here in Canada, and while CIC will be 'officially' working, I know from experience that many government workers take their vacation during this time period and they...

I personally don't see much point in doing this. All it's really doing is wasting CIC time. If you've already had your DD cashed or your CC charged then you know your application is being processed. At that point you'll receive your UCI when you get PER.

Congrats! My application date was Sep 3rd, so I'm anxiously awaiting the PER as well. My CC was charged on Nov 23.

That system (Secure Code for Mastercard and Verified by Visa) only apply to web transactions, not for cards that are swiped on input manually. So they don't apply in the case of CIC.

It depends on the province. In Ontario for example, it's part of your taxes (which are roughly 1% more than, say, British Columbia). In British Columbia you pay a monthly fee depending on your income level. For example, if you make lots of income you might have to pay $68/mo for health care...

I get bronchitis once a year. It's nothing to worry about. The medication will help clear it out. I suggest a nice warm 30 minute shower in the morning, since then all the junk in my lungs would get loose and I could cough it up. But don't worry, it's not something they would ever reject you...

Anyone know why the spreadsheet appears to be so far out of date? It seems like it's almost a week out of date for PER updates, and a few days out of date for the charges. Is it because people are waiting for the admin to update the SS (how come people aren't using their own links - seems like...

If someone has an issue with their medical, and CIC asks them to do additional tests at a later day, is it an absolute requirement to have those tests done by the original panel physician, or can they use another panel physician somewhere else?
