Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

I've been on H1b visa for 8 years now. So can confirm no issues while commuting on H1b post 6 year completion with previously approved I140. There is no commuter H1b visa.

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

Yes its all circumstantial and depends on the VO or CBP officer. I know folks at work whose TN got rejected during the routine interview at the border only to get the TN visa by applying directly with USCIS. Sometimes you can be unlucky and just forget to get the only document that triggers a...

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

Yes fresh fruit poses invasive species risk so they may be concerned. I mean that is not just a US-Canada border thing; even inter state they have agricultural checkpoints (eg. California). My observation is that border officials (on both sides) appreciate honesty. Be aware of the rules as much...

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

Thats surprising. I had a in person visa interview for renewal and the VO did ask me about where i was living and working, etc. My H1b stamp does have a "CANADIAN PERMANENT RESIDENT" annotation. Perhaps VO was not aware

Question to commuters like myself- Are folks like us eligible for HSA? I have one but recently noticed some issue with a canadian address on file with my employer. employer changed HSA provider and the new one wants a US address. I also found this handy link from health equity stating the...

Carry a lunch box almost daily. I declare everytime and they waive me thru like it was nothing

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

You become a PR when you land! I would not worry too much if they don't take a friend's address. Just call IRCC and they will update the address for sending a PR card.

New Canadian PR and Nexus Card (Indian citizen with H1B)

Agree with scylla. Definitely worth it! You also get tsa-precheck/global entry as a added benefit. You will need to go for an interview

I think it won't be too different. They will just mark you down as a commuter on the paperwork...

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

Honestly, it will be messy and stressful for you trying to do that. Daily commute is the way to go, but again there are only places where it is practical.

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

I think it should be OK. I had a H1B stamp from a previous company and was able to get Nexus.

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

Yes there is a dropbox facility, but many do get called for interview especially if there is a company change

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

Has anyone renewed a visa since beginning commuting? Are there any new formalities? Also, do you have to go to a CBP center again for NEXUS update?

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

See the link below- https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/btb-pdf/ebsiip-asfipi-eng.html "At land ports of entry, Canada will receive biographic information from the United States (U.S.) on all travellers who enter the U.S., thereby creating a Canadian exit record. In the air mode, Canada will collect...

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

Why even a thought of this being a bad thing. For most daily commuters there is a decent entry/exit record thanks to the records maintained by the US. Now with Canada recording exits, trips to other countries where an individual exits from Canada will be properly recorded. For PR renewal all of...

    US Canada Driving License Exchange

Every state has their own way of doing things. What is key is that you have the date you were first issued license and details of the previous & current licenses from the state. Most states don't provide this info on the online abstract and hence your safest bet is to go to the DMV and get one.

Exporting a Vehicle from the U.S. and Importing into Canada: Complete Step-by-Step Guide

I guess the officers at Port Huron are nicer. To be fair the CBP officers at the Detroit Windsor tunnel are reasonable. Even the ones on the bridge are fine. Some of the folks (mainly the ones outside) at the CBP facility for export or Nexus are just obnoxiously rude. I too had a pleasant...

Daily commute (Detroit-Windsor) (H1b and Canada PR)

Most of the folks have been where you are currently. It's a big decision so let me help clear up some of the questions that I had not too long ago. 1) You do not have to get a new stamping done. I still commute with my old company stamp. Expect a bunch of questions for the first week of travel...
