It actually sounds like a visitor record (mine says exactly the same thing). If you read slightly below it, you'll see it says THIS DOES NOT AUTHORIZE RE-ENTRY. Where are you from? Are you from a visa-exempt country?

Why not saving the trip to Buffalo and landing at a later date, when coming back to Alberta? Just an idea.

No problem! ;) Other than getting some quesadillas, tamales, enchiladas, pozole (omg how I miss those.. yum) there is nothing else I can suggest. They requested my passport a few weeks after my parents dropped off the Constancia at the Embassy. So no more paperwork from me :) Good luck!!
