Disposal of primary residence, how to declare it on tax return?

Hi, I became a first time tax resident of Canada on 1st January 2017. From that point on, the house that had been my primary residence overseas since 2011 was empty, and was sold on 9th January 2017. From 1st January my primary residence was in Canada. The house overseas was never rented out...

Any PRs from visa exempt countries - were you asked for PR card when flying?

Very interested in keeping this thread alive, and hearing reports from any new PRs who have travelled by plane to Canada without having to show their PR card, while having an eTA that still shows as valid on the IRCC site after the travel is complete .....

    New PR Card processing time.

The questions are regarding initial PR cards, not renewals. Re. the comment above on urgent processing - I've been told on another thread that urgent processing is not available for the initial PR card. I'm in the same boat as some of the posters above, recently landed with booked flights...

    Ottawa neighborhoods

I'm in Elmvale/Altavista, nice neighborhood. Buses are not as good as they are in the UK. Light rail opens next year but not sure how comprehensive the network will be.

    What records to keep?

Hi, recently landed as a PR, and will want to apply for citizenship at earliest opportunity. Is there a good resource somewhere that lists the sort of records I should keep in order to demonstrate residence obligations, etc.?

New PRs, what is ETA's current status?

I have a valid eTA (or at least CIC's website says I have); don't have my initial PR card yet and likely won't before I travel. No time to obtain a PRTD, not workable to reroute via the US. I'll scrub my trip unless there is good evidence that eTA without PR card will get me boarded (BA LHR to...

New PRs, what is ETA's current status?

I landed 8 days ago and my eTA status query returns: Application Status: Closed A final decision has been reached: Approved eTA number: xxxxxxxx expiry date: 2021/11/28 and further text: "When you travel to Canada you will need to present the passport you used to apply for your eTA to the...

Any new PRs flown to Canada with ETA but no PR card?

More information here http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d2/d2-5-11-eng.html?pedisable=true I'm guessing that a PR might be given a "do not board" if they have no PR card or PRTD, since the data sent to IAPI at checkin will contain the swiped passport but no swiped PR card. IAPI will...
