reading this thread i am a little bit confused. When i received my first WP....i went to POE in Vancouver....flagpoled and came back into Canada with my Canadian partner and son. I would like to know the answer to this one too. As far as i can see WP extensions are taking up to 82 days plus to be finalized, meanwhile I will be on implied intent status as my inland family class PR will be taking a great deal longer to get to first stage.

Yes you do need a new job contract and a positive LMO......to extend your work permit. You can send an application and pay with your new contract and wait for the LMO to send later and this will give you an implied intent and able you to stay and work in your job until your new WP is approved.

Hi angelbrat, Did you send your Open Work Permit application together with your PR application? I am also under a work visa which will expire on Janury 2010. I phoned CIC and they informed me that it is OK to continue working for the same employer (no need for a new work permit or extension)...
